KUTV (a Utah television station) and a consulting firm performed a test on a random sample of dinnerware products across multiple brands a few years ago and found that all of the Waechtersbach plates tested contained lead (do a Google search for "KUTV exposing lead pdf" - Amazon won't allow me to post the link). I recently e-mailed Waechtersbach's customer service department twice, asking for any clarity they could provide on the study and whether they could either verify or disprove the results but received no reply.

I also performed a Google search on this and found that as recently as December 2013, a customer service representative at Overstock.com confirmed that Waechtersbach's products do in fact contain lead (see Product Q&A after performing a Google search for "Overstock Waechtersbach lead Q&A").

I can not say with absolute certainty that Waechtersbach's mugs and plates contain lead but the evidence I've seen thus far does not inspire a lot of confidence. As such, I would be wary about letting young children eat and drink off of Waechtersbach's tableware products. It might also make sense to avoid microwaving food and beverages using their products as much as possible.

Of course, if the company is willing to state on the record that their plates and mugs are 100% lead-free and definitively address these concerns, I would be more than happy to change my rating on their product.

I have matching black bowls that I've had for over 10 years, and wanted red to replace two that I'd chipped. These are exactly the same size and shape as my black ones and I'm very happy with them. I have given four stars instead of five because these are just a slightly different shade of red from some salad bowls from the same manufacturer.

Nice looking deep bowls are exactly what I expected. True to size & color matches the pic. These are great for bowls of breakfast cereal, soup, ice cream or even to set a bowl full of vegetables, such as peas, in the center of your table. I'm more than pleased with them.
