I received two of these TPL-310AP Powerline Access Points and neither will reset back to factory defaults by pushing a paper clip into the reset button. A message to trendnet customer service produced no response.

Design seemed good, documentation was confusing, tech support was excellent, one item was DOA, second item died after 24 hours. Reliability was deemed too uncertain for the remotely supported location. Replaced these items with wired units and returned the TrendNet units to Amazon.

I bought three of these. One of them overheated. I opened it up and the heat sink had fallen off the processor. It got too hot to touch.
tried to reset the other two to factory default and they will not reset. Three pieces of junk.

Not new to Powerline adapters. Purchased this pair to replace failing older Powerline adapters.
One unit is placed about 250' from the second unit one in a metal building the other in the house
double benifit with the Wi-Fi which I did not have before(works great with TV) an increase from 2-7
mps on the old to 15+ mps with the new. Be sure to go to the manufacturer web site for the full
user manual more detailed than the one shipped with the unit.TRENDnet 200 Mbps Powerline AV Wireless N Access Point TPL-310AP (White)

If you are looking to bring a strong WiFi signal into an area of your house with a weak signal, this product is just what you need. It comes with a bonus Ethernet port should you want to hardwire critical hardware needing reliable Internet streaming such as your Apple TV, DMA, or Gaming console. While the product is awesome, setup is tricky and requires a tech savvy person to get it right. The critical steps are the initial configuration of the firmware, and the subsequent TCP/IP setup so you can access, modify, reload the firmware config file, and reboot the device using your browser should you need to. The rest is as simple as ABC. The Utility allows you to track your PLA's performance, name your PL network, and other fun stuff that a techwonk will enjoy. All in all, a great value for money, and a device that will flood WiFi starved areas of your house with a strong reliable WiFi signal. I recommend this product. Note that you need a source PLA to go with this....and it is advisable to stay with the same vendor for all the PLA devices on your PL network. Good Luck !!

IMPORTANT UPDATE (4/23/12): The unit worked flawlessly for 4 days. On Day5, the unit disappeared from the tracking SW utility. Upon checking up on why this was so, I noticed that the unit was dead. All the LED's were off - even as the switch was in the "on" position. Tried multiple outlets - no sign of life in the unit. Packed it up and shipped it back to AMAZON.com today. Hoping this was a case of a bad piece, I ordered a replacement unit rather than ask for a full refund. AMAZON.

I had been using a cable modem/wifi solution from a leading WiFi manufacturer. Signal strength and speeds have always lacked, to put it nicely.

I decided to try this, and am VERY glad I did.

If you have a larger home (the sky's the limit, actually), this is your answer. Get a main unit, plug it into the wall, then plug in as many of these WiFi AP's as you want. You can load up every room in your house with perfect signal, if that's what you want.

But I can tell you that the range and speed with just one AP will cover most larger homes (2500 to 4000 square feet) very well.

I would not buy this product again. The wireless is simply not reliable. Laptops frequently lose connectivity for no apparent reason then regain a strong signal a couple of minutes later. This happen abut every 15 minutes. The device is only 10 feet away in an open room. Ipads and cell phones, while obtaining what appears to be a strong signal, have virtually no throughput. The wired connection is also very slow, when streaming video there are lots of buffering moments that I don't have when streaming directly from my router. Thbis device certainly does not do what the advertisement said it would do.
