Astro is a fantastic company to buy from. They boast excellent surround sound tech and headphones as well as a focus on great customer service. I know this personally, as over the summer I purchased their A40 Audio System (White) and have been loving it ever since. You may wonder why I would buy a pair of their A30s since I already own the decidedly more powerful A40s. Well, I'll get to that later, but first, let me just objectively review the A30s as best I can. Whenever deciding whether or not I should purchase pair of headphones as expensive as these, I always appreciated the reviews that went into great detail the most, so I will try to be as informative as I can here for you. Full disclosure, I already own the Mixamp from when I bought my A40 audio system, and I only bought the A30 headphones this time around. That been said, I can tell you from experience about all parts of this package very accurately.

You'll know you've received an Astro product the minute you see the box their stuff is packed in. It's all very slick and reminiscent of an Apple product: modern, artistic, striking, almost zenlike. The Mixamp itself is quite stylish and simplistic, sporting a large knob for volume, a small one for Astro's patented voice/game balance controls, and two buttons, one to turn the system on, and one to activate the 7.1 surround sound. The A30 headphones are gorgeous, and quite different in design from the A40s. It actually reminds me of something you'd see out of 1960's space age comics, such as a space suit component or computer/TV from that era. It's all very, very cool in a sci-fi retro sort of way.

Not for the faint of heart. Does it deliver? Yes. Did I get this on a lightning deal? Yes. Replaced my wireless Logitech G930's. Sound direction (7.1) is much clearer, comfort is better - though I think I prefer over the ear generally.

The smaller (35mm?) drivers just don't do the same deep impact at the standard 50mm in most over the ears, but then again these are lighter.

Their ability to produce a greater range of sound from most (sub 20hz, greater than 20khz) means that while you might get less physical 'thump' from bass than some, you get more sound resolution, if you will. Sound quality with music, on stereo - wasn't exactly blowing my mind, but there's a lot to tinker with before I consider that part of the unit reviewed.

Here's where I take off a star. The MixAmp here is meant for optical in. It WILL work with your standard mini audio jack, and will provide 7.1, but it's not going to work exactly as intended.

If you don't have optical put, or if your optical put doesn't have Dolby DLL or whatever the new optical mixup to 7.1 - it may not work properly even on your optical.

I spent a lot of time researching this trying to figure out how to upgrade my rig with a sound card to push out the intended optical out. It's really confusing, at best, and I'm not easily confused.

Just confusing - if I'm supposed to have a Dolby capable optical output - well it brings into question why I didn't buy a decent Audio card and whatever headset I wanted?

In short, setup can be confusing. You have yo be comfortable selecting outputs in windows, tinkering a little, etc. On sale, this is a fantastic value and I have NO regrets. Full price? I have my doubts on value, but this is a permium brand, and stylish, so it has to be compared to other premium brands that don't exactly offer best bang-for-buck - but rather offer service, quality, style, and bragging rights.

Great headset for $75.00 with mix amp. I picked up this deal on Christmas day on sale. Only took 3 days to get to my house. Once I hooked them up it blew my px4 turtle beach wireless set out of the water. It sounds twice as good for gaming and listening to music. They fit on the ears and feel great.

Great sound quality for gaming and music listening. More complex of a setup than I expected, but well worth it once it is setup.

For gaming, it honestly feels like cheating. You can hear where all of the action is on the map (I only play first person shooters), if someone is coming up behind you, where your teammates are, etc.

Broken, two for two.
Received the first one with left ear detached from the rest. The problem was not in the packing. Requested and got the replacement at no cost. The replacement product broke (right ear this time) as soon as I put it on my head.
I don't know what the sound quality is. I don't know if the microphone works. I do know that what was made to look like screws holding the earphones to the headband are really just little decals and the glue that should hold the plastic together doesn't do the job.

It took me a while to justify keeping these headphones. I hooked this up with my XBOX One hoping it would offer sound advantage (footsteps) while playing Halo. But it didn't. That's probably got more to do with Halo than it does the headphones. I am very picky about my headphones. I used to own Bose headphones until I busted them in a Rage moment while playing an old FPS game. Sooo..... Anyways, no more raging for me. I bought this when it was $120 and not the $199 price. I will say this. Not worth $199... or at least $199 is definitely overpriced. The $120 during Prime Day is probably more accurate. You're getting the $99 headphones and the (I guess $100) "Audio Amplifier/Driver." I will gladly price the headphones at $99, but the audio thing...No. It's not that great. It's cool, but it's not that great. Anyways, the headphones are pretty good. They have very strong bass and sound like they have more than one speaker in each ear (supposed to be 7.1 stereo capable). The highs aren't as impressive. My guess is because these are gaming headphones and they need to be able to handle explosions and gun shots... not so much screaming and symbols. Still, though, the quality of the music is how I was able to justify keeping these. They're comfortable, they don't cause you to sweat, and they sound great. I like that the cups swivel. Great feature. I will recommend these.
