This product solved a problem for me. The discontinued ,expensive, permanent filter on my home well water system had a leaking flush ball valve on the filter bowl. The valve had male straight pipe threads. I searched forever for a straight to NPT (tapered) nipple with no luck. A NPT hex nipple screwed tight into the bowl but the normal tapered seal was not there so Teflon tape was out. What I wanted to do was 'cement' the nipple in with something that was not toxic and could be removed if necessary. Loctite is anaerobic which means it dries with no air present in very tight gaps so I was concerned that the thread might be too loose to work. I called Loctite tech support and they thought I'd be OK. I installed an NPT hex nipple and the 243 hardened like a rock. Even the squeeze out was very hard to scrape off. Loctite 243, unlike the more common 242, is thixotropic, which means it comes out very viscous and stays where you put it. It also meets the govt. standard for food and water contact when cured. I attached a regular female ball valve to the nipple and an NPT to hose barb on the other side with teflon tape. It took three pieces to replace the original valve. Now if a valve goes bad it's an easy swap. This replaces 242 on all counts with added benefits. It's just expensive and not as easy to find.

Doesn't need much introduction. After 10 years, I needed to buy a new bottle and it's fresh and works great.

I've been using Loctite #242 to repair my eyeglasses for about 4 years. They're aluminum frames that look particularly smart, but have a design flaw in that when someone with acidic sweat wears them they nose-pad post will frequently fall off. The only solution that had any staying power was Loctite #242. It would take a day to cure, but usually held up for about 6 months before needing to be re-done.

When Loctite #243 (oil-resistent) became available, I decided to try it out. This stuff took 5 days to cure--even with more active drying techniques (hair dryer). After wearing my glasses for two days, the post-pad fell off again. Only this time when I went to repair it, the glue that had gotten into the pinhole-shaped groove that holds the post had dried so solid that I could not get the post to re-align properly. (Essentially, I'm not sure I can repair my glasses again.) The problem is that this product dries to slowly and un-evenly in comparison to #242 and should have better instructions on how to use it so that you don't ruin the project you're working on.
