I need to occasionally recharge portable devices in my car, through either mini-USB or micro-USB ports. That's why I bought this StarTech USBHAUBMB3 3 Feet USB to Micro USB and Mini USB Combo Cable. So far it worked well for this intended purpose. The cable can also be used for transferring data to/from my computer's USB port, by the way.

Initially I considered getting a 'Y' cable, such as the Dual Micro USB / Mini USB Splitter Cable, because it allows two devices to be connected at the same time (instead of only one at a time with this cable). However, I soon realized that charging two devices simultaneously through one USB port is a BAD idea. Doing so can easily exceed the maximum current rating of the USB output port, and cause the port to lose voltage regulation or even burn out. Charging one device at a time is the only safe route.

Mechanically, the mini- and micro-USB plugs fit well into their corresponding ports, so I have no complaints about that. On the other hand, I'm a bit disappointed that this USB cable is much thinner than charging cables that came with my various tablets. For data transfer this is not an issue, but for charging I definitely prefer a cable with heavier gauge wires. That's why I can only give this product a 4-star rating.

These are really good cables. Mini-USB devices are still not dead, so these are handy and compact. I got another one after buying one. This would not be necessary if the USB guys made just one type of connector (but since there is mini and micro, these is a necessity)

+ Two connectors in one - very handy
+ No need to bring two cables
+ No need to unplug cables if USB ports are limited.
+ No clutter (unlike those Y-cables)
+ Angled-type connectors (a lot better than the "default" straight ones)
× Rather short for me, wish there was a longer version.

Which devices uses mini-USB?
✓ Full sized camera (If you don't feel like removing memory cards)
✓ Older smart devices and hard drives
✓ Other special devices (mostly brand-less ones)

Note: I would not plug in two devices at once. That would just be stupid, and I haven't tried it. This is not a hub.

VERDICT: I highly recommend this product.

Great option for charging two devices at a time. I have no complaints after using it for a couple weeks but I think they would hold up better over time if they incorporated a strain relief at the ends. In my experience with other cables, it's just a matter of time before the outer insulating jacket tears at the end with just normal use. The only way to prevent this is to use good strain relief which these unfortunately don't have. This would be a 5-star item if not for that omission.

Use it for my Playstation controller and headset, the PS4 controller uses micro USB but the headset uses mini USB for legacy support with the PS3. What was an annoying situation with chargers was simplified with a single cable.

3 feet is kind of short but it was clearly advertised so I don't hold that against it, if I were to buy it again I would go for their 1 meter version instead.

after picking the wrong cable twice.. this puppy made sure I had the right connector. Good quality connector good quality build.

I do however have a question. Why send two 3' cables in a box that was oh 12inches wide.. 18+ inches long? and 2inches thick??? The box was absolutely huge. A bubble envelope would have been more better. As was done with one of the wrong cables I ordered. Oh well....

This might be my favorite low-cost computer and portable electronics accessory. It looks like a gimmick, but it is actually incredibly handy. You know that thing that happens when you grab a charger cable, and it turns out to be a Mini-USB when you needed a Micro-USB, or the other way around? Problem solved. I keep one of these plugged in to my powered USB hub all the time - it charges 90% of everything I need charged, exchanges data, and reaches across my desk, too.
