If you are looking for a small rice cooker with a stainless steel pot rather than aluminum or non-stick coating, this is it. Makes one to three cups of rice (white or brown), has a smaller footprint on the counter than a blender, and there's nothing fancy in the construction to go wrong. Came beautifully and carefully boxed, quicker than expected....no complaints whatsoever.

It works like those counter-top egg boilers: in addition to adding water to the one to three cups of raw rice - using the fill lines embossed in the pot as your guide - you then use their measuring cup to add a smaller amount of water under the pot. The cooker will sense when this water has boiled dry and turn off the active heating element; the pot will be kept warm for 2 hours after that unless the unit is unplugged. For brown rice, put double the water you would for white rice underneath. It's that simple.

I usually donot provide any feedback on products online. I am so pleased with this rice cooker. It cooks rice great and rice doesnot burn at all. No chemicals leaching into food. Cooker is make very sturdy. No cooking water is spilling inspite of its small size.

I've had this rice cooker for several years and use it at least twice a week. It always comes out perfect even if I mess up the water amounts! You won't be disappointed. I love that it is stainless steel and is still in perfect condition after many years of use.

I have two rice cookers this one and a large 10 cup Supentown. I originally bought this for travel. This little locamotive chugger works great. I threw out my microwave oven and use this mostly to heat up my dinner. It works like a champ. It takes about 10 minutes which is a little longer than the microwave but the food tastes better as it is steam heat and stays hot in the pot until I'm ready to eat it.

Kamei Restaurant Supply House in San Francisco has the biggest selection of rice cookers (65+) if you want to see this or other models in person before you select one.

Definitely worth the price.

Sorry it took a while before this review. Anyway all this time, this Tatung I purchased had been used everyday.
I was looking for a rice cooker that's good for just I and my husband. Rice is part of our daily diet. My first rice cooker, perhaps 30 years ago was a Tatung. I loved that rice cooker and used it for a long time. When it finally went bonkers, I changed to another brand (I got tired of the old brand?). It lasted a few years. So I bought another one. I was then not aware of the danger of using aluminum cookware but when I learned about it, I became cautious about using them. The Aroma brand that I had was fine, too, but it was aluminum and my husband had the habit of cleaning the pot with steel wool when rice sticks to it--therefore, the coating was scratched up and the aluminum part was exposed. So out with the Aroma. I had been eying another Tatung at an Asian market that I go to but they were the 5-cup and I really want a smaller one, which Amazon carries.
I cook 3 cups (the plastic cup included when you purchase the cooker; this is not the regular cup that we use for recipe measurement) of brown rice in this pot everytime (last us 3 days). Even when the normal requirement/ratio for cooking brown rice is 2 cups of water for every cup of brown rice, I fill the inner pot with water just a little over line 3 (on top of the number 3). For the outer pot, fill with water measured with the cup over line 8 (on top of the number 8). As soon as the pot's red light goes off, unplug the pot. I do this as I do not want the rice to get dry (remember, it lasts us 3 days). If you want the rice to stay warm, leave it plugged in. Stir the rice, the underneath should be still watery but if you let it sit for a few minutes it should be good.
The pot is made of steel (not as thick as I would have wanted it) and very easy to clean. Everybody who sees it says it's very cute. I recommend this product.

This rice cooker makes perfect rice every time with absolutly no browned rice on the bottom at all, the rice on bottom looks exactly like the rice on top. Easy clean up and fast cooking. Making one serving of rice takes only 15 minutes. I like to cut up some hot thai peppers and cook them right into the rice, sometimes replacing water with chicken broth. Just add a little butter, salt, and pepper and you've got a great spicy rice that will be good with any meal. You will not regret buying the rice cooker.

I bought this Tatung TAC-3A-SF 3 Cups Indirect Heating Rice Cooker thinking it would be good with stainless steel insert, however the stainless steel insert quality was so poor, it's thin and it leave marks on the bottom that does not come off. It quick working after I had used only 4 times. I sent emailed to the seller but he never replied. If I knew that; I would not have spent that kind of money on this rice cooker, and I will never order anything from this seller again.

I can't believe how much rice comes out of this thing! Its so compact, for my Airstream! The entire batch of rice is cooked evenly throughout. No brown crust, no mushy top, just 100 % beautiful fluffy rice!
You will have to take the recipes as a suggestion / starting point only. And be willing to adjust the amounts of the rice and water incrementally until you find your perfect result. Then hang on to the recipe. So there will be 3 or 4 batches that aren't perfect; don't give up, theres a learning curve. Once you get it right, its a DREAM. Rice, water, push the button. I personally like to run the cycle out and add another 1/2 cup of water and run it again. Let set for 10 min. That gives me perfect sushi rice. So, play with it. Also yes it did have a kind of burning smell the first 2 times but it did not affect the product and then went away. I chose this primarily because it is stainless steel. I was really sad to give up my Zojirushi. The rice in this Tatuny comes out just as good and a bit more evenly cooked. LOVE this little rice cooker!
