Musician's Gear Hardshell A-Style Mandolin Case from Music123:
Many folks have been disappointed by the size of this case so I thought I'd measure the inside and post that info here.
First, though, my observations:
- Came quickly and appropriately packed
- Nice looking case - mine has gold-colored hardware
- Very light weight for a hard shell case: 4.3 lb (2kg)
- Fit my strange old mandolin just fine
- Accessory compartment is in middle, under the neck

Inside Dimensions*:
- Overall inside length = 27-1/8"
- Width at widest point = 10"
- Length of body area = 14-1/2"
- Accessory compartment length = 5-3/4"
- Headstock area length = 6-1/2"
- Body area thickness = 3-3/4"

* The foam/fleece can be compressed about 1/2" so an instrument somewhat larger than these dimensions can fit OK. May be too tight if your mandolin is more than about 1/2" larger in any dimension. It appears that the accessory compartment could be removed with four screws if you needed more room in the neck or headstock area.

I hope this information makes easier to ensure that your mandolin will fit in this case. Bear in mind that my case (purchased in July 2013) is just one example and that the case you receive may be different than mine in one or more dimensions - so no guarantee of a fit.

GOOD CASE BUT TOO TIGHT A FIT FOR MOST

Like many here the case could be an inch bigger. For my Ibanez 510 I cut the bottom material along the edge against the side wall enough to take out the bottom foam and then put the material back. Now mine closes without pressure on the bridge.

Nice hard case

Got this for a Rogue RM-100 Mandolin, and it fits snugly but very well. A strap (wide nylon in my case) can stay attached if one wraps it around the side. The last 1/2" to 1" of lid travel before closing will compress the top cushion against the mandolin bridge, but if the body has been pressed snugly down, the pressure exerted on the bridge is not excessive. External materials are very good, internal material is excellent. Excellent price; no competition. Highly recommend.

Nice case, but doesn't fit my mandolin

For the record, the Kentucky KM-160 A-style mandolin definitely does not fit this case. If you modified the case, you should be able to make it fit by removing the pick box. Music123 should list known mandolins that do not fit in this case, as I am sure I am not the first to call them with this issue.

Note that if you got free shipping on your order and then have to return it for any reason, Music123 will deduct from your refund the shipping charges that you were not charged originally. In other words, to return it, budget paying 2x shipping.

I can return it and net $28 for a $40 case. Hello Craigslist.

Fits Perfectly!

Does not fit many A-style mandolins

It's an OK case, though one of the latches is too hard to close. Worst of all, this case has a flat top. You can not close the case on a standard A-style mandolin. The bridge hits the inside of the top. I was so surprised at this poor design that I took the case to a local guitar store and tried 8 different new and vintage mandolins. None of them fit. So they can call this a lunch box, or a hammer case, or a jewelry box, etc. But they probably should not call this a mandolin case. By the way, my mandolin is a Rover RM-50.

This exact same case is sold by many different venders under many different brand names. Buyer beware.

Awesome case - fits Ibanez M510

I bought a mandolin recently (an Ibanez M510) and I wanted a case for it. Guitar Center (where I got the Ibanez) had a case for $120 ($132 after tax.) My mandolin cost me $150. It didn't seem practical. I found this case on amazon, and it had good reviews and someone mentioned it fit their Ibanez M510. So I got it.

Mine was purchased from Music123 - they delivered quickly and the case is amazing. It's a nice hard case, soft padded interior and it fits my mandolin. It also has a storage compartment, and it has a lock/key. The lock is simple, like the kind you find on a kid's diary. But I'm not complaining, at this price this is a steal.

Smells of Chemicals

It is definitely a safe, sturdy case for the instrument, however I have come upon two issues with it:

1. It has a definite chemical smell to it, where it may not smell bad overall, breathing it in through my nose proves to be painful.
2. It does not line up without mild effort, making latching it a pain sometimes.

I would however recommend this to a friend based off of the fact that it is relatively inexpensive, it works, and should make anyone with a mandolin that fits it happy.
