I love making my own ground beef and have done so for years. When my last made in china grinder died I decided to see what I could find that was made in the USA. LEM fit the bill. This is on the low end of their grinders but it seems well made. The week after it arrived a local store put their roasts on sale so I had a chance to see how well it worked.

My old grinder had to be coerced with a plunger to chew on the meat strips. This LEM grinder grabbed the meat and self fed without a problem. I ground 17 pounds of meat in about 10 minutes. We use a foodsaver to package and freeze the ground beef and usually my wife is waiting on me to grind more so she can seal it. With this grinder, I finished grinding and then had to help her with the packaging.

This is a perfect grinder for light home use. If I had a large family or hunted big game I'd probably chose one of their heavier grinders.

LEM model 1113 arrived this week. Our impressions are favorable. Was pleased to see its 575 watt rating printed on base. Others appear to be playing games by touting "peak" ratings. That number refers to the amount of electricity motor might consume for very brief periods - usually when starting up - and greatly overstates its normal operating wattage (hence: size and power). This is a solid unit with enough power for occasional home use. Heavier duty grinders sell for $300 or more and use metal components along with internal circuit breakers for protection. Plastic components in this and other lower-end units appear designed to flex or break under serious overload conditions, thereby protecting the motor.

Setup was easy, though we at first screwed up. There's a small notch in the side of the cutting plate that needs to align with a small protrusion where it goes on the grinder. If not lined up correctly the plate will rotate and cause the entire cutting apparatus to twist itself right off - oops. There are just 2 cutting plates, coarse and fine (many others give you 3). However, these are stainless steel, a better quality material than used by some. Using the "coarse" plate, in part to reduce wear on the grinder, we ran our 5 pounds of 1X3" chunks of steak through twice. It took 10-15 minutes with the resulting product well suited for burgers and other cooking. Motor slowed occasionally, but overall, grinder operated well.

There's a wealth of information on the Internet about home meat grinding. So read-up first. We learned, for example, that chilling meat to near-freezing allows the grinder to operate with less resistance - and less trouble for you. I should note, too, there was no spare part included with ours (as some have reported).

I have this grinder for about 2 years now. We don't use it on a daily basis so I can't say it would or would not stand up to constant use. Each time I have used it, its done a wonderful job.

I have had hand grinders in the past that get clogged on the sinewy parts of the meat and do a terrible job. The Grinder for the Kitchen Aide Mixer had that problem and was crap a meat stuffer. (The Kitchen Aide Mixer itself is worth its weight in gold) Borrowed a tube stuffer that was poorly made and just squished out the the sides. Borrowed a crank stuffer that was major hard work and still didn't that great a job.

The LEM grinder worked wonderfully. I processed about 30 lbs of deer meat in no time. There was no clogging and the different size grinder wholes are great.

I processed 40 lbs of chicken which i thought would clog up , nope it went right through.

I stuff over 100 lb of bologna in no time at all. I was worried from past experiences but this thing worked like a champ.

Only one thing I am worried about and it may be unfounded is the amount of pressure you place on the grinding head may lead to the connection failing. By connection i mean where the head mounts onto the machine. I would have manufactured a brace of some type to reduce the stress. This has not happened but I am still worried about it.

Great little workhorse. Gets the job done. Seems to well made and designed. Very easy to disassemble and clean. The price is right. I don't think I'll ever go back to buying store bought mushy ground beef ever again.

I rate the LEM 575 Watt #8 Meat Grinder 5 stars for a small entry level meat grinder. I first bought a sunmile sm g73 from another on-line seller. The Sunmile SM G73 was suppose to be 1200 watts. Well the box said 1000 watts, and it came broken. I shipped back and this weekend while at Bass Pro Shops I picked up the LEM 575 on a lark. They had on sale and I thought I could take it back if it was broken also, (it is also made in China like the Sunmile and also plastic geared unlike the larger and more expensive LEM grinders). First impressions after taking it out of the box. Kind of cheap, plastic housing, smaller and lighter than the Sunmile, and only 575 watts vs the Sunmile's 1200 advertised and 1000 on the box. It came with a 2nd gear, (I guess they know it eventually will strip or could strip. I would rather have metal gearing, but providing the 2nd gear is nice prevention). Very easy to assemble the LEM 575. Now for grinding the meat. GREAT Little grinder! Did 4 pounds of rump roast, and 4 pounds of boneless pork shoulder roast. They were ROOM temperature, no problem easily grinding either. No problem chewing the warm pork fat. No load on motor and no need to reverse. This grinder is not very loud. Now I don't think this could grind bones, but I'm grinding my own hamburger and pork sausage so I don't need to grind bones. I'll probably be grinding about 5-9 pounds twice a month and expect this grinder to last a long time for what I'm doing. If you need a light duty grinder for MEAT and don't want to chill it, this is the ticket.
