For $150 I can't bash this grill to much

For $150 I can't bash this grill to much, BUT I can give some tips that will help you get it into great working shape and perform better. (I bought this grill from Wal-Mart for $149.99, so this reveiw has nothing to do it Amazon, the price it is selling for here or shipping what so ever)

1st - take out all the pieces and make sure they are not bent or damaged. My hood was a little bent on one side when I opened mine, someone else might want to take it or send it back at this point. I just used a hammer to bang it back into shape and it was fine, so it wasn't a big deal to me at all. Looks fine, works fine :)

2nd make sure you don't lose ANY screws or hardware while you're putting this grill together, it does not come with a single extra piece. I lost one of the short screws and bolt, I had an extra screw and bolt that fit it okay lying around in my tool box so I wasn't SOL. But if you do lose something, just write down the piece you lost or need (1/2" 5mm screw, or whatever piece) and ask someone at Lowes, Home Depot or any hardware store and you can get a new screw or nut for just a couple of cents.

3rd - The parts i would recommend getting new pieces for right off the bat would be the screw and nut for the side air vents, the ones that let your coals or wood breath from both sides of the grills body. These fit so tightly together (which is a good thing) because you don't want to tighten them down all the way and make it hard for you to open and close the vent to control air flow. The only problem here is that the screws are made of a cheap soft type of metal and with the force it takes to tighten the bolt down you completely strip the screws out.Read more ›

Cheap materials but not bad for the price

This is a good grill for what it offers at it's price point. The main reason I purchased this model was the crank that allows you to adjust the coal rack height. My main grip comes more from the poor packing in the box (from the factory), as there was almost no cushion and some of the larger pieces got dents and bent after being put through the rigors of shipping at some point. Mine was also missing the hardware to assemble it, so I had to call Charbroil customer service. Their customer service was surprisingly responsive and they did offer to replace all the parts I wasn't happy with. I admit to being too lazy to want to ship said parts back, so I made them work just fine. I was able to get the grill assembled with minimal difficulty once the hardware arrived. Had the packing been better, it would probably have arrived in better shape and would have a 5 star rating from me. The grill works very well and we've been very pleased with it from our first use onward.

WASTE of $$$

So, I got this grill for my first house. Put it together, and had to mod most of it. The metal is cheap, and comes warped to the point it doesn't line up without some force to make it do so. After putting it together, I used it....slow cooked for 2 hours, meat came out wonderful. However, thanks to the warped metal, air kept getting in, and it took almost 8 hours for the fire to die out (my old weber took 30 min, to give some comparison). After it cooled down, I put my cover on it, and placed it under my pergola. 2 weeks later I go to use it again, and the inside is rusted out. Wound up tossing this POS and getting an actual grill. Save yourselves the headache - spend more $$ now on a good grill; don't try to save money by buying this garbage. You'll get limited uses out of it, and just waste your money.

Avoid it! Get a reall BBQ grill.

It’s a piece of junk (I have had this for almost 3 years). I bought this because I moved and I wanted a new grill.

First, it did not come with all of the bolts. I never did call to get a new one. The bolt missing was the 2nd bolt that holds the stack.

2nd, the lid does not line up with the base. It never has and it never will.

3rd, the tray for the charcoal is the worst design I have ever seen. Its a steel plate with something like 3/4" holes in it. The ash does not fall through, I have to use an old spatula to move the ash back and forth until it falls through.

4th, there is no lip to keep food from sliding off; this is what led me to #5.

#5. The grates are junk. They working ok until I got mad because my burger slide off because of #4. I hit one of the grates with my spatula. One of the links broke in half and fell into the coals. I looked at another link, touched it with my finger and then it fell through.

I hate this thing. I might be buying a new BBQ that is made with plate steel and weights 222 lbs. I might take some pictures to show you.

Great Grill for the Price

After returning a grill that was delivered damaged, I bought this grill (assembled) for a few dollars LESS at a box store. I have to say, for the price, this grill can't be beaten. It's not made from heavy-gauge materials, but where it matters, it does very well. The grates were a big selling point for me. Any other grill in this price-range has thin, flimsy grates that may or may not be porcelain covered. The grates on this grill are heavy gauge AND porcelain.

Also, this thing holds its heat. I don't do a lot of smoking, but just for fun watched the temp as I closed the lid. With half a bed of coals, it easily maintained 330-360 degrees for 30 min's with no additional fuel; more than enough heat for smoking or indirect cooking.

I have seen other reviews complaining about the parts not fitting together. I'm sure that's almost entirely due to the fact that the packaging doesn't hold up to shipping. I can testify that all of my doors, vents, trays, etc. line up and hold perfectly with one exception. The door handle on the front fuel-add door will not stay tight. The lock-washer and nut combo just won't stay snug. If I can find a way to fix that, it will be a perfect set up.

PROS: Huge Grill / Can Raise or Lower Bed to Vary Heat / Heavy Grates / Holds Heat
CONS: Front door handle comes loose / May be damaged in shipping

If you're patient (willing to return if damaged) or can find it in a box store - BUY IT!

Great grill but the lid doesn't close all of the ...

Great grill but the lid doesn't close all of the way, causing the heat to be released. Takes hours for the temp to get high enough to cook. Will be looking for another grill.
