This is a very high quality wide angle lens accessory for the Olympus M43 14-42mmm II and IIR lenses only. It does not fit the earlier 14-42mm lens. It mounts using a bayonet mount on the outside of the lens barrel, not using the 37mm filter threads of the 14-42mm lens. It allows a slightly wider field of view (about 26%) with negligible image degradation.

I tested a very large number of other 37mm wide angle accessory lenses on the 14-42mm II lens. None were quite as good as this one optically. They had typically had two problems: soft focus toward the edges, and moderate to severe vignetting. This lens was designed precisely for the 14-42mm II lens, matching its quality very well. It is sharp to the edges, with minimal barrel distortion or color fringing, and it does not vignette at all. Incidentally I tried it with the newer Olympus 14-42mm II R lens too with identical results. Initially I did not like the bayonet mount because it limits the lenses you can mount this on, but after using it I found it very convenient and idiot-proof. I also got the Olympus FCON fisheye lens and like it even more because it gives a much wider field of view, but when I want to preserve image quality, this WCON is the one I prefer.

So I have to say this is a very high quality and well designed product. It's expensive compared to a lot of 37mm wide lenses, but works so much better that I have to recommend it highly.

This lens quickly and easily attaches to the standard 14-42 mm lens. It increases the field of view by about 20 degrees. It really made the difference on a number of shots on our recent trip. Absolutely consider this for traveling.

Works easily and well, and as convertors goes, is the best one I have ever used! You really do not see a difference in performance and in fact I tested that the shutter speed is NOT affected when adding the converter in most circumstances! Hard to find softness even in the corners!

Make sure you've got the M. Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 II... if your lens isn't labeled "II" (as in you have the old one) the WCON won't mount. I point that out because it's not mentioned in the product description. Other than that, it works great!

The price went up since my purchase, but I would buy again, as this is the best purchase I've made to supplement my Olympus EP3. It makes a huge difference in tight spaces and adds so much depth to the photo. I recently came back from a ghost town trip and left this on for most of the shots. Photos that would otherwise feel flat now make you feel as if you're in the room. I wish I'd bought this a lot sooner.

Like a couple other reviewers, I was initially frustrated that the adapter did not fit snugly, but as others have noted, be sure to keep twisting it on until it snaps in place. Then it is very sturdy.

This lens performs well - but I had to apply a couple layers of tape to the threads to keep it on. Since figuring out that workaround I have been happy with the pictures. Would be nicer if Olympus comes up with a version that fits the 9-18 wide angle lens.

This may well deserve a 5-star rating. In fact, I will change from 4 to 5 before I post this. I used this converter extensively on a trip to SE Asia that lasted 10-weeks. I must have taken as many or more photos with this on than with it off of my Olympus 14-42II-R lens. I don't see any meaningful difference in quality with or without the converter. Inasmuch as I was taking a lot of photos of buildings and interiors, this really helped insofar as capturing wider angle JPEG photos. I had no problems mounting or unmounting this converter.

I did notice one unexpected thing with my camera setup which is unrelated directly to this converter. My camera body is an Olympus Pen Lite E-PL6. I discovered that my RAW photos had a much greater field of view than my JPEG photos, both with and without the converter. The field of view without the converter was in fact much wider than the wide angle of JPEGs WITH the converter. With the converter, my RAW field of view was even wider. This caught me by total surprise, but the discovery meant that with the converter I captured fields of view in RAW that were really great for many of the situations I found myself in. The field of view in RAW was greater than the viewfinder -- JPEG photos corresponded to the viewfinder view, with or without the converter. This meant that I had to guess at how much I would capture in RAW as the viewfinder didn't give me any indication. This may be an anomaly in the Olympus Pen I own, but maybe it is common in Olympus cameras.

Received it, tried it, and was surprised how well it did even at the corners/edge.

I need to try it a few more busy photos then if I change my mind I may change this review.

Like it. easy to install and remove, solid while on - does not wobble.
