I bought this saw to do one thing; take 6' off of a "big green monster" hedge. The monster was 45' long X 12' wide X 14' high. I'm always skeptical of any power tool that is 1) a non-proven brand name and 2) a power tool with it's own info-mmercial. So I rolled the dice on this one, and to my great satisfaction, it powered thru the hedge for 3 straight days, at 6hrs each day.

The chain came off 3 times, never when cutting big branches, only when I tried to power thru multiple small branches too quickly. So, I take some of the blame for that.

The jaws are a nice design, as I used them to pull branches back towards me after I cut them. The extension pole came in very handy because I was reaching quite alot. It is fairly heavy to use, and after 3 days of work, I was sore as heck.

Very happy with the purchase, as this tool did exactly what I wanted it to. In addition, it saved me hundreds of dollars over getting the hedge done by somebody else. The proof is in the pictures, the big green monster was tamed, and I'm glad I made the purchase.

This WORX JawSaw is easy to use and it does work well on overgrown brush and small trees, but there are some issues with the chain coming off the first few times (but see below). This was given to me as a birthday gift by my wife with the idea that it would be used to trim back our overgrown garden area. Here are my observations:

Pros -
+ Comes Completely Assembled; only needed to adjust the chain tension and add chain oil (included) to the reservoir
+ Easy to Start; this is electric, so it starts with the push of a button and squeezing the handle
+ Easy to Use; this is a clever design that allows the blade to be move by pressing the handle in (like a plunger) while holding on the handle on the body, cutting anything that is in the "jaws"

Cons -
- Chain Comes Off; after using this for several minutes the chain came off the guide, it is fairly easy to put back on, but it came off again after more use. I contacted WORX Customer Support (Toll Free Number) and they advised me to retighten the tension nut and run the JawSaw for a few more "sessions" so the parts could wear in. Surprisingly, the chain did stop coming off after our third run of about a half-hour each. This would have been good to see in the instructions, but I am happy that it resolved the issue.

misc -
* "Front Heavy"; while the unit does not weigh a lot, it is front heavy and can become taxing to wield over longer periods for those lacking good upper body strength. My teens and I had no real issues with it, but my wife could not use it for more than half a dozen cuts or so at a time.
* Requires Extension Cord; included cord is very short so you will need to supply your own heavy duty extension cord

Other than some frustration over the issue with the chain coming off, I am very pleased with this useful tool.

This item was fantastic to work with! After our big tree smashing snowstorm in the Northeast this October I needed a power saw. I was always leary of chainsaws as I have had friends who lost fingers and the potential of kickback is another issue. However this item was just what the doctor ordered. I made short work of many log branches simply by pressing down on the handle while it is placed inside the jaws of the saw. Any kickback of the wood gets caught in the jaws. What an ingenous design! I would highly recommend it if you have medium size branches to cut!

I have a wall of Brazilian pepper trees encroaching on my property from a piece of land that's a utility easement, and the utility doesn't do anything to maintain it. I was looking for a small, cheap electric chainsaw or maybe a pole saw to use to try and trim things back. While doing research on the big-box home improvement store websites, I ran across this Worx JawSaw.

I looked at one in person at the store today, trying to make a decision between a $50 traditional electric chainsaw and this thing for a little more than twice the price. I went with the JawSaw, and I'm actually glad I did, despite my initial reservations that it looks kind of cheaply constructed. Most of the body of the JawSaw is molded plastic, except for the metal jaws, and of course the chainsaw mechanism itself. The JawSaw comes with a convenient little cord lock attached to the power cord, which lets you loop your extension cord through to prevent it from being pulled out. It also came with a small oil bottle with a long tip to make it easy to fill the self-lubricating JawSaw's oil reservoir. Sadly, the tip on this bottle is the kind you have to snip the end off to open it up, and there's no cap, so storing the oil without risk of spilling it could be problematic. It also came with a small bottle of Chain and Bar lube, and a tool used to adjust the bar tension.

My fears about the construction were unfounded. It's pretty sturdy and took abuse for three non-stop hours. On the down side, it's quite heavy, and doing that much work will undoubtedly leave you very tired and sore (like I am now). It also has a fairly small oil reservoir, and goes through oil pretty quickly, so keep an eye on the level and refill it often. I seemed to have to refill it every 20 minutes or so of continuous use.Read more ›
