These locking pliers are not Knipex or Grip-on quality but they work and are reasonably priced. I have extra long needle nose pliers but did not have anything that could lock in place until purchasing these. They are a step above HF brand since they have molded rubber handles that makes them easier to grip where the HF brand are all metal without the added grips. I would have considered a higher end brand but honestly could not find anyone selling these online other than Triplett. I don't have any cons to point out just don't expect Snap-on or MAC quality out of the package especially considering the price. There were no major flaws or defects in the metal or chrome and the jaws and tips lined up nearly perfect. The locking mechanism worked smooth and the adjustment screw was easy to turn. I rated the tool 5 stars primarily considering what I paid for them & the unique tool need they fill. Since this tool will see a more limited use I am quite happy it did not cost me a fortune and would buy again if needed.

I agree that these are not the highest quality, but they really aren't designed for heavy duty work and the price is right! I appreciate others here letting me know what to expect, so I wasn't disappointed that they are a medium quality tool. I needed them as an extra hand under my pick-up bed to hold a nut while installing some hold-down brackets in the bed and they were great simply because they had the extra leverage with the extra long handle to hold against a support pillar under the bed. I actually bought them for my other car, a 1990 Eagle Talon that is miserably cramped on two sides of the motor and I saw these and knew they are exactly what I needed for several different hose clamps on vacuum lines that are difficult to reach. I immediately put some grease on the threads of the adjustment bolt and they feel a bit smoother already. I'm not expecting them for extreme torquing. They'll do!!

These pliers are a pretty good buy for the money. These can be a real life saver in certain situations working on cars, hose clamps being one example. The handles are comfortable and the metal components are plated nicely. I do have some caveats to mention...... In using these I have noticed that the screw binds up at times, causing me to search for another pair of pliers to get the screw unstuck. As others have also mentioned this problem, I thought I'd share my own thoughts as to why this problem is occurring; the reason would be because the metal the screw is made of is too soft and galls up in the handle's threads. On removing the screw, I can see the end of the screw where it cams against the locking bar inside the handle is peening much too quickly. I can take the screw out, put it back in and repeat this process and see the mark left from camming against the locking bar each time. It would seem the metal they chose to use is not much harder than what would be used in a common nail! A properly hardened screw would be just the ticket. I've tried switching out the screw with one from another pair of brand-name needle nose locking pliers but the pitch of the threading is finer on the Triplett screw and it wouldn't work. Another thing I wonder about is why the manufacturer chose not to weld on the jaws as is featured on most other pliers of this type. The added leverage one would impose on a longer pair of pliers would certainly put even more stress on the rivets holding the jaws in place than a standard pair of locking pliers would! I'd pay a few bucks more if the product featured these improvements and double the asking price if they were made here in the USA! China has little respect for our patent laws, so I wouldn't feel bad at all if a USA brand stepped up and made a version of these pliers here. Are you listening Triplett? Your competitors are....

I was sorely disappointed by this product, tried to use it to reach a bolt, and these pliers dont even lock properly, they just spring back open on all but the loosest settings which is all but useless when trying to do something, spend your money elsewhere.

This tool is unique and has leverage like no other. It is not only for reaching and grabbing, you can turn a screw/bolt/anything with amazing torque if you use it from the side. Great for straightening out hedge trimmer blades when you catch the fence. Used it to assist in a screw removal. Many uses.

CONSTRUCTION
> A little larger (not counting the "extension") than a 6" Irwin Vice-Grip Long-Nose pliers. Irwin Tools 1402L3 6LN Original Long Nose Locking Pliers, 6-Inch
> Much smaller, and lighter construction than a 9" Irwin Vice-Grip pliers. [ASIN:B00004SBB2 Irwin 15-9LN Vise Grip 2-7/8-Inch Jaw Capacity 9-Inch Long Nose Plier with Wire Cutter]]
> Well built, but not quite the quality of "real" Irwin Vise-Grips---but only a tool nut would notice.
>>> The action is smoother, and the durability can be enhanced by working automotive grease into all the moving parts---but that applies even to Irwin Vise-Grips.
> These are approximately equal to Irwin 6" vise-grips plus an extension, which puts them into a "moderate duty" category---a guy with normal strength can damage them. Not easily, but they can be overstressed.
> The cushioned hand-grip makes for a good comfortable grip.

GREAT WEED PULLERS
> Specifically, the Triplett Longlockers, are terrific for pulling up small saplings, 1/8" to 1/4" diameter (maybe a little larger in soft soil). The strength you'd normally have to put into griping the sapling can be put into pulling. So you can easily pull larger saplings than you could by hand.
> Because of the extension you don't have to bend over to pull up the saplings. You can just "walk along" and pluck up saplings or similar weeds as you stroll through your garden.
