Improvement from old model

I have three older wiebeTECH drive cases I purchased from wiebeTech/CRU Dataport. When I went to buy more I saw they had been replaced with this new model. I bought a box of ten.

The new cases are ~2.5 cm (1 inch) shorter than the old cases but are virtually the same width and depth. The old cases had more empty space at the top and bottom. The new cases leave about 4 mm space at the top, bottom, and left of the drive, and 8 mm to the right. (I measured the spacing with a WD 2TB drive in the case.)

The new cases have a nice, textured, diamond pattern on the front, back, and a small portion of the spine. It's more textured than the old cases, which makes them somewhat easier to hold. The new cases are easier to open, but not too easy. They are also more stable standing vertically than the old cases.

It looks like the new cases are made from the same plastic material at the same thickness. I would not feel comfortable dropping a hard drive stored in one of these cases, but I don't think that's their purpose.

Be careful from whom you purchase -- my package of ten cases from ANTOnline came with one broken case due to lack of packing material in the box. Their only recourse is to ship all ten back at my cost with better packaging than they provided.

Indispensable if you have bare drives sitting around

These are excellent and well worth the money, a must have for people with bare drives. I regret I hesitated to buy them for so long.

They are very solid and snugly fit a 3.5 drive. They are anti-static. They stack perfectly. Easy to stick a label on each one. They are black. The external texture keeps them from slipping out of your hand. They definitely are not just cheap generic plastic boxes.

They provide great protection. Reviews that state otherwise baffle me. Nothing will protect a bare drive if you drop it or throw it in a backpack or whatever. If these had instructions, they'd need only say "don't be stupid."

Perfect Storage for Bare Hard Drives

Simple product that provides the perfect solution to my storage problem. I have dozens of bare hard drives on the shelf and I was storing them in their original retail box, which was taking up a lot of shelf space. These simple plastic storage cases are perfect. Now the hard drives take up about 25% of the space they were before. Plenty of room for labels as well.

Great product

I have been looking for a good sturdy 3.5" Hard Disk case that was anti-static and stackable in bookcase. The WiebeTech DriveBox fit my requirements perfectly. When my order arrived, each case came individually wrapped and packed together in another box that was packed inside another larger box. I'm not sure if this is the norm, but needless to say it was well packaged and not a single case was damaged or broken.

Each case fits a 3.5" drive perfectly with a nice tight fit. There is no padding in the inside as none is really needed due to the snug fit. They remind me of those hard plastic VHS snap-shut cases back in the day, but only better. I do like the added textured groove design patterns on the outside making it easy to grip compared to a smooth plastic finish. Each case on the binder area has a smooth finish allowing you to stick on a label to identify your hard drive content. In fact, 3 labels are provided for you for each individual case. So they line up in my bookcase nicely like novel size paperback books.

This product fits my needs perfectly as it is a huge step up for me from the anti-static bags that came with the hard drive I was using previously. I will be purchasing additional cases in the future as I have started to amass quite a collection of hard drives every time I upgrade.

The best way to store bare drives

With video editing chewing through hard drives I've switched to using bare drives.
This is the best (and only that I could find) solution for storing them.
Way better than the original antistatic bags.

Best type for its price

Before buying these cases, I tried one of the plastic flip-top styles. That type had the potential advantage of some padding on either end of the case, but the latch that held the lid closed was either too flimsy or too rigid because it broke off the first time I tried to open the case. These cases don't have that problem. They're made of a sturdy plastic and hold the drive well. The cases have no padding and I agree with other reviewers that they may not much protection if you drop them, but they're great for protecting the drive on a shelf or in a larger storage case. Padded cases cost another $3 to $4 each, so these are the best style and contruction for the price.
