This boot is extremely stiff around the ankles; I read a couple of reviews that indicated this was an issue.
The boots fit prefect out of the box and felt great on my feet.
I feel better knowing my husband has these on when he goes out in the Florida woods during hunting season!!!

I've been holding off writing this review, until I had enough information to maybe make a difference for someone that is stuck on the fence as I was before making that $200 plunge. The first point I'd like to make, as others have, is these do appear to run small. When I say 'appear', I mean that for me, most brands run big by comparison, so these are actually spot on where they should be. Compared to say, Rockys, these are atleast 1/2" shorter, AND considerably narrower, which for me, means the 10.5D's I ordered, actually FIT me for a change. This is the 3rd time ordering to find *the* boots for me, and I wish I'd went with Danners the 1st (or even 2nd) time, as the same size in 2 different pair of Rockys swallowed my feet. I took the time before returning the second set of Rockys (pro lites) to overlay the footbeds, and took side by side pix to get a true representation of the length and width differences. It's actually hard to comprehend they both carry the same size (I'll try to get those posted in user images).

Now, to more Danner specific stuffs.... These things are great, IF you realize what you're getting. They're basically really tall high-top sneakers (full 18" @ front) with heavy duty uppers, that are unbelievably lightweight. I wouldn't worry about a rattler getting through the uppers at all personally. The soles themselves are fairly thin by the way, if you pull the footbeds/underlayment. While great for stalking, they won't think about stopping a mesquite thorn. I wear heavy custom arch supports with mine for several reasons, the top of which being protection from those sharp, pointy things that can really ruin a week.

So far, these seem to be 100% waterproof, up to the tongue split of course, being about 15" or so.

The boots are very comfortable around the feet and calves. In fact they are the most comfortable shoe/boots I think I have ever placed my feet in.
One problem, they killed my ankles. The fabric is supper tough and not flexible around the ankles. I've worn them hunting for over 12 miles now and they have not broken in around the ankles. I actually had a fall because the fabric would not let my ankles bend enough going down hill. I will wear them some more and and see if they break in. On flat ground they are great. In mountain/rocky areas the are tough on the ankles and can cause safety concerns.
    Traction is great!
By the way, they are very waterproof!!!! It was in a rain forest, and boy did they hold up. Rained the entire time. Everything was wet but my feet! The next day I could not wear them due to how sore my ankles were and I ended up having to wear a pair of high end hunting rain boots. Since my feet couldn't breath they were drenched from sweat at the end of the day. So for water proof these boots are great.
Once they break in, I might change my review, but I cant see giving them a real high rating due to how hard they are on the ankles...

I normally wear an 11. So, based on the other reviews, I got an 11.5, which was the perfect fit. Also I took the advice of the gentleman who soaked them in hot water...and that also was perfect!! Very stiff out of the box...but I have arthritis in my foot, so break in and comfort are paramount. I've now hunted three times with them...with a good bit of walking...and no isssues with comfort or breakin because I stood in a bathtub of hot water for 5-10 minutes each day for two days prior to my first hunt. Also...thanks to Amazon.com, I saved OVER $100 (using their normal lower price...no sales tax on their purchases in SC...free 2 day shipping with Amazon Prime...and their $30 on $100 footwear discount. These boots would have cost me over $245 at the local big box stores...but I got them for $140. A REAL no brainer...on a great, lightweight and comfortable boot!

Let me start by saying I put my fishing/hiking equipment through the mill. The guy sitting by the pond watching his bobber, I'm not. I hike in through rough terrain (rattlesnake habitat) just to get to the water (moccasin habitat). I then spend long periods of time walking the creek/river, sometimes hours at a time in a foot of water.
I suppose I'll address the stiff ankles first. I like the stiffness and support. Mine were not immobile, like some have claimed, just very stiff. The problem was the folds digging into my ankle. It was painful. I solved this problem by using a self adhering "Ace" bandage as padding.
Next, I didn't realize how much insulation my everyday shoes have. (my everyday shoes are Hi-Tech light hiking boots) When I first stepped into the creek, I thought my feet were getting wet immediately. I realized it was just the cold, not the wet. My feet stayed dry, but later in the evening my feet were freezing. There really is nothing but a thin layer of nylon around your foot. I'm not complaining, as the boots are clearly advertised as "non-insulated". I just didn't realize exactly how "non" they were. On the second day (couple of hours in the water) I got a very little bit of moisture (not sweat) on my left foot, in one small spot, but otherwise their claim to "waterproof" seems to be accurate. (Keep in mind that they are only waterproof up to 14" since the gussets in the tongue are cut low.) I purchased a pair of neoprene "socks" with extra padded ankles to address both issues with one solution, however, I'm sending the boots back.
The claims of being "like a tennis shoe" are accurate as well.
