I have zero use for rods, but these are more like brushes and are actually perfect for Americana roots styles like country blues, bluegrass and similar genres.

The best way to describe the sound is an organic legato sound if using them like brushes. You can easily make them staccato by moving the O-rings towards the tip of the fan. Even at the most staccato configuration they do not project much, which makes them perfect for accompanying all-acoustic music.

Note that if you are using heavy heads or even smooth heads you are not going to get the nuances that these are capable of producing. I use them with [mainly] Remo coated Ambassadors on all batter heads. Moreover, sound suppression rings and moon gel will kill the resonance that you need to use these in an optimum manner, so if you cannot live with open tuned drums these may not be for you.

My only complaint is the diameter, which at three quarters of an inch is like a tree trunk to me. I normally play thin, 7A sticks and brushes of the same .5 inch diameter. I also play traditional grip. On the other hand, they are light, and drummers who use heavy sticks and/or play matched grip will be right at home with these.

Frankly these should be a part of every drummer's bag of tricks because they add color and nuance to your sound palette.

A beefy sound with very little attack. I can't get enough of the sounds they create; that tone; too much fun to be had! I've had mine for awhile and still can't decide whether I prefer the large or the small. So, I say, get 'em both. They really are awesome!

These sound great and are a nice break from using your hands. I use these with a cajon pedal, and it feels more like playing a kit. I am concerned that they will not hold up for long though. Time will tell.

I have the fatter version of these and like versatility. These are even better IMO because they feel more like "rods" and I can easily play traditional grip with them.
