I am a middle school teacher with a $125.00 supply budget and 90 students! I must be very careful to make sure that my selections are both affordable, and appealing for the students I work with. I purchased this scratch paper for students to use on the cover of the poetry books they created for their parents. I purchased one package of the paper and cut the sheets in half. This gave me enough for each student. I had the kids practice their designs on scrap paper from our recycle bin first, so there would be no mistakes when they were given their precious scratch paper. They were very excited and proud of their designs. When the designs were completed, we placed them in the center of their construction paper book covers and used ribbon or strips of construction paper as a frame for their designs. It worked out well! The paper was rather strong smelling and I took the advice of the other reviewers and opened the package ahead of time to let the paper breathe for a few days, which was a good decision. As far as the quality of the product and company it came from, I expected the paper to be the size of a regular 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper, and I was disappointed to find that it was much smaller than that. I was also unhappy with how expensive the shipping turned out to be. One pack of this scratch paper ended up being over $17.00 with shipping which came out of my classroom supply budget! Although it was very appealing to my students, and they loved the project, in the future, I will hesitate to purchase this item, unless it is offered with the free shipping option at Amazon.

My son is obsessed with these scratch art papers and we always keep a stash of them handy because he uses them every day. He has autism and the scratching seems to provide him a calming, sensory stress release, and he usually just simply scratches the black off rather than drawing pictures with them, although he does draw with them sometimes too. We have tried all the different brands out there, and these are by far the best quality and value we've found. The Melissa and Doug brand does have cool colors and backgrounds, but the black stuff flakes off in big chunks and gets everywhere, making a huge mess. They are not worth the money. Color zone scratchers are pretty good, but you don't get as many sheets as with these, nor as many scratch pencils, which tend to get dull points and not work as well after awhile, not to mention get lost. If you're in the market for scratch papers, get these -- they are the best and trust me, I've done the research to make that claim! My son spends many happy hours with these so they're worth paying the shipping!

I was hesitant about buying this product due to some of the reviews but upon receiving it I have concluded that it is a great product. The paper is not too thin. My kids, ages 7 & 11, had no trouble at all with it. The only thing that would make it a 5 star product is if the colors underneath were more vibrant.

My kids got scratch paper set from their grandma, but ran out of the paper, so I ordered more from Amazon. They love it, and I think they're actually better quality than what the kit came with. But I just think it's a little pricy to use a lot of, so I give them two at a time to use... Perfect for working with stencils and stuff.

Outstanding project for Vacation Bible School or the classroom. Paper is stiff enough not to tear with the scratching and the kids loved it. They were able to complete the project in 30 minutes, but older students could easily spend more time.
