* One GOOD thing about this sunscreen is that it contains NO VITAMIN A. That's good, because many sunscreens used to have Vitamin A, and it's become a concern.

According to the Environmental Working Group website:

"A study by U.S. government scientists suggests that retinyl palmitate, a form of vitamin A, may speed the development of skin tumors and lesions when applied to the skin in the presence of sunlight (NTP 2012). Officials in Germany and Norway have cautioned that retinyl palmitate and other vitamin A ingredients in cosmetics could contribute to vitamin A toxicity due to excessive exposure (German BfR 2014, Norwegian SCFS 2012a).

"The evidence, while not definitive, is troubling. The sunscreen industry adds vitamin A to nearly 18 percent of the beach and sport sunscreens, 17 percent of moisturizers with SPF, and 13 percent of all SPF-rated lip products in EWG’s 2015 sunscreen database."

Since this report came out a few years ago, I suspect that fewer and fewer sunscreens contain Vitamin A. Vichy is one of them.

* This Vichy contains no fragrance. I like that. But it still has a scent. The typical sort of sun lotion scent.

* This is a sunscreen, as opposed to a sunblock. What's the difference? According to the Family Health and Nutrition website:

"Sunblock contains physical or inorganic ingredients that physically block the sun (both UVA and UVB). Often it is a much thicker lotion than a sunscreen. Look for Titanium Dioxide or Zinc Oxide as the main ingredient. This may be a better choice for your family if you have anyone with sensitive skin since titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are less irritating than Parsol 1789 found in sunscreen....Read more ›

Vichy brand is the best sunscreen I have ever tried. This one is very good on your body, but a little shiny for your face.So, if it is for your face I definetely recommend Vichy Capital Soleil Sun-cream Face SPF 50- the best face sunscreen ever!!!

I have white skin that easily burns. I experienced no difficulties after a day in the sun with this applied, however. I did notice that the lotion caused some redness on my face when I tried it out on a day that I was to spend inside. The manufacturer, though, clearly states that this particular product is not meant for facial use (they have other products for that), so that's fine - just for the rest of my body. The product has no strong scent and does not feel greasy or sticky. It is water-resistant, but I followed the recommendation to reapply it after going in the water. I'd like to see a 3.4oz version so that I can pack it in a carry-on bag without TSA taking it from me at the security checkpoint.

Capital Soleil, a new line of products from Vichy, combines the attributes of a serious, broad spectrum sunscreen with that of advanced skin care. These products are intended to be used year-round (not just at the beach) and are appropriate for adults, and children over six months, with normal or sensitive skin. This particular lotion goes on quickly and smoothly and dries without stickiness. It provides excellent UVA/UVB protection while leaving the skin soft and moisturized.

I remember my parents drinking bottled Vichy water, a highly mineralized bubbly water from the hot springs in Vichy, France. The minerals in the water were supposed to be good for the digestion, especially after a heavy meal. At the site of the hot springs in France were thermal spas where people would go for therapeutic treatments. Today, Vichy Laboratories uses the same naturally formed mineral waters in their line of skin care products. The claim is that the waters contain 15 minerals and antioxidants that “refresh and soothe skin, strengthening its natural defenses and increasing its ability to repair.”

To me, the best part of this product is that you can wear sun screen without any of the telltale negative aspects: strong coconut or other beach-appropriate aroma, or shiny, sticky, heavy-coated feel. You apply this lotion, and you are the only one who knows it is a sunscreen.

Vichy's sunscreen is a light and pleasant sunscreen. It looks and feels just like any other sunscreen, an off-white creamy lotion, but the Vichy does not have a strong odor and absorbs quickly, without a greasy residue. The slight fragrance that the Vichy does have smells pleasant, and is barely noticeable. In fact the Vichy reminds me more of a facial moisturizer with SPF 15 sunscreen that a straight-up SPF 60 sunscreen. With that said, I won't be slathering the Vichy on my face daily, since it is not intended to be a daily moisturizer. Rather I've been using it on my forearms and neck when I'm working in the yard, or spending a lot of time outdoors. It's kept me protected for hours, and I haven't noticed any skin issues or irritation when using the Vichy.

All in all... a pleasant alternative to typical smelly and sticky sunscreens.

Very Impressed with this sunscreen product. I have used certain Vichy product over the years, including moisturizers, so I ma familiar with the brand. This is a premium product.
I have very fair skin and burn easily, I do not tan. I have used this product in the last few weeks while cutting grass and getting my Texas lawn ready for a very short winter. I did not apply to my face, but used it on my neck and forearms. It can take a beating including sweat and water. The product still kept me protected.
The tube is an easy open and squeeze to dispense. There is a mild scent, but I cannot identify it. Rub and ready application. The product absorbed easily and did not leave a sticky or greasy film. I am very impressed. I would certainly buy this Vichy product.
