I read about tulsi (holy basil) tea in the recently published Integrative Wellness Rules: A Simple Guide to Healthy Living by Dr. Jim Nicolai, and decided to try it. My favorite Celestial Seasonings vanilla tea had just been discontinued, so after researching different kinds of tulsi and vanilla teas and comparing prices, I decided to order Organic India Tulsi Tea, Vanilla Creme.

I am not disappointed! This tea is delicious. It is a little bit spicey and a little bit vanilla - basically a very pleasant mellow flavor. Plus it's relaxing, but does not dull the senses.

My impression is that the description on this page which indicates that it contains caffeine is wrong. The box and the Organic India site indicate that it is caffeine-free. Given that I'm super-sensitive to caffeine but can go to sleep easily an hour after drinking this tea, I do believe that it's caffeine-free. According to the box, it contains three forms of organic tulsi, organic rooibos (an African red tea) and organic chamomile but no caffeine.

In Integrative Wellness Rules, Dr. Nicolai wrote "Of all the medicinal plants I use, one of my favorites is known as holy basil.......one of the prized botanicals used in the ancient traditional Indian medical system known as Ayurveda.... Holy basil is now at the top of my list of plant-based strategies to target stress....My personal experience with it is that it lengthens my emotional fuse. My reactive fight-or-flight response to stress is much less intense...It gives me greater patience and more of an opportunity to be mindful.Read more ›

OK, I love vanilla and when I read that a tea is vanilla creme I think OH YUMMY! Well this stuff was a disappointment and maybe it's because I don't know what Tulsi Tea is? Or maybe because the taste is so mild that I couldn't even find the vanilla. Whatever it is I really don't like this stuff and I was wishing for a lot stronger vanilla taste.

I love this favor! It is delicious and the vanilla is mild but fragant! It is a calming tea. Sometimes I mix it with Chocolate to make a semi sweet, hot chocolate with vanilla tea that is very satisfying. It's my own concoction!

This is my absolute favorite tea. I love the vanilla creme flavor. I like mine nice & hot with a teaspoon of honey in it. Very soothing & calming. Tulsi or "holy basil" truly does have a very calming effect. So, if your nerves are frazzled, if you just need a bit of help to relax...drink it. It's all good.😉
