I've had the HairMax Laser comb for approximately 4 years. I've been using it consistently all that time. Out of curiosity, I wanted to read some reviews about the Laser comb because I'm not happy with my results. I've concluded that anyone who has written a 5 star review is an employee, or paid reviewer...period! I am an Asian male, 50 years old. My balding pattern is the frontal region of the scalp. I've noticed the thinning progress since 2006. I purchased the Laser comb in 2008 and used it 3-4 times a week. I observed no improvement. In late 2008, I then went to Bosley's for a hair transplant. Initially, the results were great. They recommended that I continue to use the Laser comb, which I did. But now (Oct 2012) I'm seeing the frontal hair region thinning. Needless to say, neither the air transplant nor the Laser comb worked. I'm not a scientist but I think the only good treatment for thinning hair is a good hat. I'm putting my laser comb away for good!

This is a device to depart the desperate from their dollars. After four months of diligent use, the time new hair is SUPPOSED to have grown in, you will have wasted considerable money and time. How could the FDA approve this, and why do we have to give a star to junk?

I am so disappointed with this product. I noticed some thinning (not male-pattern baldness) about seven months ago so I decided to go to my dermatologist. She explained that I had three options: Rogaine, Propecia, or the only FDA Cleared ("Approved" is reserved for a different class of drug/treatment) laser treatment by HairMax. First, let me comment on why I chose to avoid the first two.

Rogaine: This requires quite the commitment of 2x daily application, which I find to be inconvenient and expensive. The products also creates quite the greasy-hair look, at least on my (thinning) Italian hair. Plus there are sexual side effects, which you may want to read up about on WebMD. The good thing about Rogaine is that there are many generics available and there are minimal side effects.

Propecia: You have got to be kidding me with this one. About 10% of all men experience erectile dysfunction while on the drug and a subset of those men will ALWAYS have the dysfunction even if they stop taking it. This is according to my dermatologist and details found all over the web. Now factor in that most, if not all, insurances don't covers this drug for the treatment of hair loss (you can get a higher-than-recommended dosage for another indication, which is covered by insurance if your doctor is willing to do that), so plan on spending $60+ a month until the medical community comes out with a better option.

Based on all of the drawbacks of the other two treatments I thought that the side effect-free HairMax was the way to go. Sure, the upfront cost is more than either of the above options, but after a year this will be less expensive. After six months of consistent use (every other day for 15 minutes) I have seen zero results and my hair is thinner than ever.

MOVE ON. Dont buy this joke. The return policy is 30 days when the "shedding process" alone is suppose to last 8 weeks before growth. Scammed and now stuck with garbage. Dont be me
