I recently became the office manager at a new company, and one of the first things I noticed in the office was that the dishwasher smelled like old socks. It was absolutely insane. Whenever someone would open the door of the dishwasher, you could smell it from at least ten feet away. As it was my responsibility to take care of it, I stepped up to the task and reached in the filter and felt the most disgusting gunk that was a weird rotten cottage cheese color and smelled even worse. I ordered the Glisten Magic cleaner after having nightmares about the gunk and reading a few reviews. I gave the first bottle of glisten a try, it worked okay, a lot of the gunk was washed out of there, and the smell subsided quite a bit. I tried the second bottle, and everything was great, the gunk was mostly gone and the smell was mostly gone and it was a huge improvement. Now, after two or three days, I noticed that the smell, albeit fainter, was coming back. When I walked by the dishwasher, I could smell the same funk from before, so I came back to Amazon to see if there had been a step I missed with the glisten, and found out accidentally that this products main component is citric acid. Well, if that’s the main ingredient, why not use pure citric acid, which I happen to have at home (I use it for making mozzarella). I brought in my Citric Acid Powder - Ultra Fine Pure Powdered Crystals - Natural Preservative Food Grade Quality (16 oz), and put it into the dishwasher and gave the washer a go. It really cleans the nasty gunk out of the dishwasher. I would recommend using this stuff at least once every other month. You really do not realize how much, and how fast, gunk builds up on the inside of the dishwasher. My dishwasher cleans better and sounds quieter. I also use the Finish Powerball dishwasher tablets, Finish rinse aid, and the Finish Power Up. Finsih is the only way to go! Once you clean your dishwasher you will want to use the Finish Power Up, since this will help keep the nasty white film off of the dishes and the inside of the dishwasher. I hope this helps!!!

This stuff really worked. I had my doubts, but I am now a believer. I had noticed some crusty metal build up inside our tea kettle. Then I noticed it in the stainless steel dog water bowl. Then I noticed it on the elements in our dishwasher. No rust, just calcium or something. So I used CLR in the dog dish and tea kettle but did not know if it would damage the lines or hoses in the dishwasher. That's when I came across the Glisten Dishwasher cleaner. Just put it upside down in the silverware rack and run the dishwasher with no dishes in it. Came out sparkling clean and not even an indication of the build up that was on the elements was detectable. Very pleased with this product. Thank you.

Finally got around to trying this out. My dishwasher had some rust spots from hard water. This didn't remove it completely but definitely improved it quite a bit. It's not a miracle product not does it claim to be. Older stains will need a little more thorough of a cleaning but this definitely helped and made the rest of the dishwasher look really good.

My husband and I bought our first condo and not too long after moving in, we noticed that the dish washer was acting up. It would wash the dishes,but would leave yucky film and particles on it. I had seen this behavior from dishwashers in the past and knew that this was a pretty common issue. Shortly after, the dishwasher started having issues with draining the disgusting water. We solved this temporarily by putting some clr in the water and letting it sit for 24-48 hours. This was only a temporary fix though because it would occur again 2 weeks later. Understandably, I was getting pretty tired of this cycle, so ordered a 2 pack of dishwasher magic the next time this happened. Wow! The inside of the dishwasher looked white and clean and most importantly, no water was collected on the bottom! I will follow up this review in a few weeks to indicate if there has been any water collection reoccurring.

This is the first time I have tried this in a dishwasher that I've had for 3 years. I noticed the inside stainless steel door was covered in a light white coating and for the first time some glasses appears to have residue on them. After using this product the dishwasher did clean up quite a bit, but was not "shiny clean". As 80% of the coating was cleared away, I needed to clean the remainder by hand using another cleaning product. Once that was done, the whole dishwasher now looks new and everything comes out clean. Not sure if the dishwasher did not get completely clean using Dishwasher Magic was due to there still being liquid soap in the door that could not be emptied out. Next time I won't wait as long to use this product again - when I do, and if I don't have to go behind and clean it more with another product, I'll update the rating to five stars.
