Thsi is NOT an diagnostic adapter!
The K-line wire is connected to pin 15; Instrument Cluster.
Possible use is for odometer rollback - not diagnostics.

It is quite easy to open the plug and move the K-lin, but it will only work with an OBD2 device IF the car is OBD2 compliant. The data protocol of a non-OBD2 compliant Mercedes is unique and can not be processed, unless the OBD2 device has a specific software for this.

Bottom line: this cable will probably not work for anything other than Odometer Rollback on European cars - and if you have the device needed, you probably already have the correct adapter.

I couldn't get it to work. I am pretty good with figuring out things like this, but when I plugged it into my OBD II reader, it said I was not connected to the car. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get it to connect. I have a 1995 MB SL500...it could be that my model/year cannot be read by a OBD II reader. I instead took it to Pepboys to get the codes read and they had some intricate system where they had to plug in a circuit board key and it read my car, but still had some malfunctioning going on so I can't say 100% this item doesn't work -- it just didn't work for me.

I was expecting this adapter not to work, but it did. I needed it for my Mercedes-Benz CLK class which has the round 38 pin connector and it worked perfectly with my standard OBD II scanner.

I have heard of other adapters that do not work for not matching the pin order, but this one works fine. Get it.

This is not a true 38 pin adapter. It only has ground, hot and pin 7 on the 16 pin connector. All the other pins are empty.
