Ok, so I normally don't write reviews, probably out of sheer laziness, but I hope I can be of some help here to you taller folk. I was frustrated by reading reviews because although most of them talked about how great the jacket was, few listed a physical description of the buyer and what size jacket fit for them, which I find most valuable in a review. So just quickly, the quality of the coat is fantastic, it looks great, don't hesitate to buy. Now the important part. I am 6'4", 215lbs. I believe I am of average overall size for my height, not too skinny, not too big. I could probably stand to loose 5lbs from my beer belly. If you are my height, most certainly buy the tall version. If you are my weight, just get the large. I was afraid since all of my shirts have to be xl to get the right length (although a little too baggy) but the xl coat is a little too long, and a little more baggy. I could comfortably fit a heavy sweater underneath, which won't be needed in my southern Idaho climate. Hope this helps

Size: Large TallColor: Marsh (Closeout) Verified Purchase
Being 6'4 and around 200lbs, online jacket shopping has been iffy at best. No issues here, though - Carhartt delivered with the Large Tall size. I have very long arms, and this jacket surprisingly fits fine. If you like a lot of extra room, order a size up. I prefer a close fitting jacket, so slightly bigger guys might actually find Large Tall too small.

I got the Marsh color, which has a great broken-in look from day 1. The sherpa lining is snug and very insulating, I sometimes can't wear it indoors due to the warmth. No fabric scratches, the zippers and stitches seem robust and made to last.

If there was one thing I'd change, it would be the lack of a waist drawstring. When it's really cold and windy, a drawstring or pull cord can help keep heat in and cold out from the waist. Still, it fits close enough and is so enjoyable otherwise, I can't ding it a star.

This is a great cold (not Arctic-cold) weather jacket.

If you are familiar with any Carhartt jackets, you're already 90% familiar with this product. It is sturdily-built, and designed for hard use.

Like most of Carhartt's jackets, the Sierra features front slash pockets, a zippered chest pocket, and a small Velcro-closure pocket located on the inside left. The zippers, both on the jacket closure and on the pocket, are very robust. I have snagged items in them without them jamming, and I have put a lot of strain on the main zipper from climbing around with the jacket closed. A lesser jacket's zipper would have burst, or the stitching would have come loose, as was the case in a competitor's jacket.

The sherpa insulation is the closest thing to perfect as I can imagine. It is basically a synthetic lambswool type of lining. It is soft and not scratchy or itchy on bare skin, and it does not hold a chill like some of Carhartt's other linings. Most impressively, it is warm enough to keep me warm in the middle of winter, but breathable enough to keep from getting uncomfortably hot in temperatures up to 70 deg F. This gives this jacket a very long usable season, and I find that I do not have to keep jackets in multiple weights on hand to switch out as the weather changes. I can wear this jacket, or no jacket, and be comfortable year-round. If you're concerned that this insulation will be too hot for you, it isn't. If you're worried that it will not keep you warm enough, it will.

I have one minor criticism, which is that the slash pockets on the front of the jacket are not insulated well enough. Only the outer cotton duck and a thin felt-like lining separate your hands from the elements, and this is sometimes just not enough.

My comments are related to sizing. I own many Carhartt coats and jackets, all of them being Large-Regular and they fit me nicely. (I am 6'1", 195# with 36" waist and 35" sleeve.) The only exception is this model---originally got a Large-Regular but it just did not feel "right". I exchanged for Large-Tall and it made all the difference--it felt "right" in length and sleeve. Plus the amazon price was also very right!
Your results may differ, but just relating my experience for what it is worth.
As always, I love my Carhartts with their rugged good looks (like me!!!) ;-)

I got this for my husband as he is on install jobs for Lowes so he's in and out constantly. He ABSOLUTELY LOVE the jacket. I believe it's his favorite one. He normally just head out without a jacket but he doesn't miss a beat to leave this one behind. He puts it on before he heads out. This is our first Carhartt jacket order. I'm thinking about getting myself one :o)

On a side note before you order, you may want to bump up one size your normal size. For example, my husband is a L and always wear regular size clothes until I read through the reviews, someone recommended to get the big & tall size even if your height is a standard. My husband is 6 feet tall. So I ordered him XL, big & tall. Fits perfectly and his sleeves are perfect that even when he raises his arms up, it's still long enough and doesn't ride up as well as the waist area.

I don't believe you'll regret this purchase. Yea it's more costly but I truly believe it'll last many years to come. Amazon does have the best price after numerous research. HIGHLY recommend this!
