I'm not sure what all is in this, but it's not pure Cream of Tartar. It may have extenders or anti-clumping agents in it. I purchased this to make Rochelle salt crystals and every attempt to make them with this brand failed and caused the entire batch to crystallize into a solid block. I tried to clean it up a bit by supersaturating a solution with this product and then letting the cream of tartar precipitate out and had the same results. I bought another brand from the local supermarket (McCormick) which was more expensive but it has been working out fine for creating the crystals. I'm sure this is fine for cooking uses, but if you're trying to make piezoelectric crystals I wouldn't recommend it.

We've been making lots of playdough lately and while the product seems like a large upfront investment, it has been SO much cheaper than buying in the store. I also use it in scrambled eggs. I plan to try my hand at making baking powder as well!

Recipe for playdough: 1 cup flour, 1/4 cup salt, 1 tablespoon cream of tartar, 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, *optional* 2 packets of flavored drink mix (unsweetened, like Koolaid, etc), and 3/4 boiling water. Mix until smooth, add a bit more flour or salt as needed (for some reason the drink mixes with red food coloring need more flour/salt) until it is easy to handle and no longer sticky.

Cream of tartar is great for cleaning shower doors, sinks, toilets, & tubs. I'm extremely sensitive to chemicals, scents,cleaners, & perfumes, and so I'm always looking for safe ways to clean; mixing cream of tartar with hydrogen peroxide or vodka to form soft paste is the answer for a lot of my chores. (Don't use it on grout though, as it can discolor it.) So glad to find it in this large, more affordable size.
