I run this powered hub in a raspberry pi setup so that I can connect my keyboard and mouse without worrying about pulling power needed to run the pi. This works just fine. I will ultimately use the pi as the media center in my camper so I'll velcro the hub to the pi case so I have a nice small form factor media center.

The hub is about the size of a deck of cards. All four ports are on one of the long sides, which makes the spacing a little tight. Some of my larger thumbdrives would not fit in adjacent ports. For those, an extension cable would be needed. The power supply is 2A, providing a full 500ma to each port. The hub was plug and play on my Linux system, and I'll probably use this for a future Raspberry Pi project.

Just a quick update... The hub powers down when the host port goes down. As a result, you can't use the hub to power the host (for example a Raspberry Pi) via a second USB connection to one of the powered ports. The host will need its own power supply.

This has been very useful to me. I tossed out my netgear wireless router, and replaced it with a raspberry pi. This unit lets me have a single plug for the raspberry pi, since it can power it, and other peripherals such as a wireless access point.

This USB hub can supply the full 500mA to all ports simultaneously.
Does not feed back power through the uplink.

Powers my Raspberry Pi, Wifi dongle, an Arduino and Bluetooth dongle
without problems.

I'll admit, I've had a few poorly made hubs in the past, so I wasn't really expecting much. What sold me on this purchase is the good pricing, external power supply, and the Rosewill name. This hub definitely exceeded all expectations! It charges iPhones fast, great transfer rate, even with multiple devices attached and being used at the same time. The construction of the USB ports is superb, they are flush with the bezel of the hub, don't catch or snag on anything, and are heavy duty enough to stand up to some accidental wire pulling. It's overall a great product and anyone looking for a powered USB hub, this is a purchase you will not regret. Looks good on the desk and works well enough for light use or heavy data transfer!

I have used this on my iMac without the power supply, and also used it with my raspberry pi with the power supply. If you want to have a USB hub that doesn't drain battery from a mobile device, like a laptop, Android tablet, Win8 tablet, or the aforementioned Raspberry Pi, then this is a winner. Only kick back is this USB 2.0 and not USB 3.0. But this works as advertised with or without the power supply. I like using it with my iMac also because I don't like swinging the whole iMac around to plug in a USB device. This just sits on the desk and I use it as my USB connection if I want to use USB 2.0 speeds. If I have a USB 3.0 device, I still connect direct to the iMac ports.
For the price this is a good little hub and worth it.

If you're going to get a hub, get a powered hub. Saves you a lot of grief if you have a periferal that is drawing too many amps of your built-in UBS ports to handle. Well built, with a power indicator light. Plug and play with no problems on Vita 64 bit machine, which is notorious for not playing well with new hardware. The only improvement I'd make is to have at least one port with bigger spacing, so a UDB plug that has a fat end will still fit next to more normal sized plugs.

Works great with 2 portable HD, 2 desktop HD and one non-powered usb hub attached. The 2 desktop HD will not go to sleep mode because it thinks it is plugged into a PC all the time. Now I understand why some of these powered hubs have a on/off switch for each HD. No problem, I just turn off the power strip when I take the laptop with me.
