I recommend using a syringe to dispense your baby's medication into a nipple, with or without a bottle attached (if not using a bottle, use the nipple with a nipple base so the baby does not risk choking on the nipple). Be sure to hold the nipple tip-down (e.g. rest it tip-down in the bottle cap) so the medication pools in the nipple and does not get dispersed on the sides of the bottle.

Like most parents, we had issues with our baby taking the medicine (liquid tylenol) with the syringe that comes with it. We got this to work last night and this morning. The baby thinks it's a pacifier and takes the medicine! One note, the measurements are by TSP and mL however the hash marks for mL start at 5mL, infants take 2.5mL so that's my only complaint but I'm not too worried about it. I just measured with the syringe that came with the tylenol and shot it into the bottle medicine dispenser and it worked perfectly.

I'll briefly describe my personal experience before I go over the main points of likely interest. Skip straight to bullets if you just want the quick & dirty. My 4 month old is exclusively breastfed so we administer vitamin d drops daily. In addition to that, she has reflux, so we have a prescription liquid Zantac to administer 3 times a day (though I rarely need to give all 3 doses). sometimes we give her the OTC infant gas drops (simethicone). On rare occasions we've given her a wee bit of gripe water.

When I purchased this handy little guy we were just trying to get the vitamin d down. The other stuff came later and then I was particularly glad we had this. The vitamin d is sticky and gross (I tasted it). I tried giving it to her with the dropper. I could make that method work only if I took 10 minutes administering the 1ml dose one tiny little drop at a time, waiting after each drop for her to stop fussing & reluctantly swallow. That's fine now and then but got really old for a daily medicine - not to mention TWO daily medicines! Lots of people/nurses tried to show me the various techniques for dropping in the whole ml and getting her to swallow all of it in one step, but my girl wasn't having it. She'd just channel her inner llama and spit that mess right back out. then she'd be all sticky...which resulted in crying as I tried to clean her up and get it out of the fat rolls in her neck. the dose would be wasted...we'd have to start all over...you get the picture. It didn't take long for me to swear off the droppers and the syringes. I use this literally every single day. It's a crucial part of the morning routine. It holds about 1/2 ounce of liquid, which is more than enough room to hold multiple medications and plenty of milk or formula to mask the taste.

A medicine dispenser. Does anyone really need one?! Probably not. But, in complete sincerity, I'm so happy we have this product! My son is on medication that we have to administer daily. As such, it's nice to have a product that makes our job just a little bit easier. My favorite part about this item.....ANY (regular-size) bottle nipple can work in place of the one it comes with. We use Dr. Brown's and always insert our preferred nipples in this product. The familiarity for my little boy makes the whole process just that much easier. And, isn't that what these types of things are for?! Either way, for a few bucks...it's worth the convenience!

Unfortunately, this dispenser is almost useless for us. Our son takes heart medicine 4 times a day. But, since he is a newborn, the quantities are very small. It is very important for us that he takes every ml prescribed, but with the design of these dispensers, much of the medicine gets caught by the lid and doesn't make it into the nipple - despite our best efforts to wiggle it and shake it down. We have found that there is a different brand of pacifier, medicine dispenser that does not have this problem and has made our lives much easier. This one, however, does not help. It might work okay if someone has an older child, or if the medicine quantities were larger such that several mls lost would not be a problem.

This little dispenser is one of the BEST purchases I've made. I used to struggle with giving my newborn daughter Infant Tylenol, Poly-Vi-Sol vitamin, and her gripe water using syringe dispensers - she would spit up and it would take 2-3 tries to get the correct dose down. Now I give her Tylenol, etc using the Safety 1st dispenser by mixing the medicine with a little bottled water. My baby sucks it down without hesitation - she loves it! I've been using the dispenser since she was 2 weeks old. I even bought an extra one as a just-in-case.

Hard to snap together and medicine can get stuck around the nipple rim inside. I found it's best used for giving my baby gripe water, since that is not as thick or as little dosage for meds so it flows better. A better construction of nipple lid would be great, instead of snapping together a screw on top would ensure the top doesn't fall off or leak.

Both of my kids had to take some pretty nasty acid reflux medicine 3X per day! It had a very strong minty taste that they would just spit right out. Mixing a little formula with the medicine and then dispensing it with this made it so much easier! My son was very picky about his nipples and since the nipple on this was different than he was used to, we would just swap it out with one of the normal nipples from his bottles and he didn't even notice a difference. This product was a lifesaver!!!
