I bought a series of these regulators and moisture traps, in less than a year, two of the inline filters bleeder valves went bad and one regulator came apart inside the housing and could not be fixed. these where not mistreated items they where kept out of the sun under cover, placed a long distance off the compressor to keep them cool, and the lines where bled at the end of every day. I paid extra for these items wich should have been a premium grade setup and have been very disappointed in there life span. When I contacted Ingersoll Rand they refused any replacement or reimbursement for every item that went bad and would not honor the warranty that came with the regulator or moisture traps.

The plastic bowl is sturdy and locks positively. Removes moisture enough for the tools i use (no paint or sandblast.) Without the auto drain its rather annoying to drain the bowl. When the system is pressurized it takes a lot of force to push in that drain. Without any pressure the collected liquid comes out rather slowly. I just end up taking out the bowl and dumping it out.

I do not love it. The water is released through a push button on the bottom of the bowl and feels like I am going to damage it when releasing under pressure. I would have much preferred npt threads and I could have screwed a decent ball valve on the bottom. If they don't want to make something we would be proud to own, at least make it where I can modify it. I will not be purchasing this again when it breaks. I am pretty sure it is only a matter of time but technically it is doing what it is designed to do.

The bowl that see's full pressure is made of Lexan. That freaks me out. The top body that threads into the body is aluminum but, the entire bottom half is plastic. Probably not that durable. Also, the drain is not a petcock. It's a rubber / plastic wobble thing that's sure to leak or break. I'll thread in a brass petcock someday.

As soon as I received this separator, I took it apart. Unlike a lot of vehicles these days, this unit was designed to be maintained. It breaks down very quickly on top of having massive airflow. As far as the water drain goes; a touch from any direction will quickly purge the condensate.

The lock/release button makes this unit MUCH easier to open than other types. Very easy to operate. Make sure you order the model with the correct inlet/outlet thread size for your application. Would be nice if it had a mounting bracket, but since I mounted next to the pressure regulator, it wasn't necessary. Also, this unit will not trap ALL moisture if mounted close to the compressor -- as the air temperature drops downstream more moisture will condense out and you may still need another trap at the air tool.

I never write reviews, but I'm so annoyed by this that I felt compelled to write a review. This unit certainly looks and feels very beefy, but I'm sad to say that after only a year and a half of occasional weekend use that this unit has failed. All of a sudden as of yesterday it's leaking like a sieve out of the bottom spring loaded push button deal.

This thing was never abused, and never over-pressurized. I'm merely a weekend hobbyist mechanic/fabricator and I haven't even used my compressor more than 20 times total over the past year and a half. Pretty darn disappointed. If I wanted to have to replace this every year or so, I'd just have bought the $15 Harbor Freight unit.
