Think of this like dog food for your dog. This is the only thing your crested gecko needs (well, water too). Unfortunately, many online sources and even published books will tell you otherwise. Since the rediscovery of Crested Geckos was in 1994 (about 20 years ago as of this review) there has not been entirely too much research on how to properly care for them. Luckily, the guys at Repashy did it right. This diet contains all the vitamins, supplements and calcium that your Crested Gecko needs to stay healthy. It is a powder diet, which must be blended 1 part powder to 2 parts water until it forms a "smoothie-like" consistency. CGD should be thrown out and replaced every other day. Also, there are other flavors for this diet, but my Crested Geckos seem to be genuinely happy with just the normal flavor, which I think might be banana.

Quick CG Care tips: Crested Geckos should never be fed only crickets, or only baby food. First off, crested geckos are NOT insectivores - meaning they cannot be just fed crickets (unlike Leopard Geckos, which can live solely off crickets). Crickets do not provide Crested Geckos with enough of the essential vitamin and calcium levels that they need, and supplements will not help that. However, most Crested Geckos truly enjoy hunting crickets and they can be fed as an occasional snack (1 feeding per week at the most). During this feeding there is no need to "coat" the crickets with any powder. Baby food also does not provide them with the correct nutrition levels that they need. I can't believe the effort that was put in, to pack this product. They actually used two cardboard style envelopes to ship this product. Making it so that if one was scuffed up or torn the other would still protect the cargo. On top of that I paid for standard shipping and still got it in 2 days from the night I placed the original order. I love people that take the effort to protect the goods I'm purchasing during shipping. I tend to order everything except food online and man its a sad day when you can say that this small company that I buy my gecko food from takes more pride in their work than many larger companies I've worked for feeding human beings while trying to get through college. Thats not even touching upon that actual products quality which is superb. Oh and as a heads up make sure you don't mix this product so its runny otherwise cresties won't touch it until it starts to harden up and by that time it would mold. Essentially cresties like soft or rotten fruit in the wild but I don't want that kind of crestie diet sinking up my home. Thats why I go with this product its simple and sweet and I don't have to raise crickets and the monitoring of their calcium sacs is now non-existent since switching to this product last year. Ever time I check up on them for weight and so on their well within the healthy range for this species and that gives me more time to enjoy viewing them instead of poking and proding them.

I can really thank this food for even having my wonderful gargoyle gecko, Zombie. There are many kinds of lizards I feel incapable of taking care of, because I worry about them getting the proper nutrients when they have to eat live bugs, and have to be supplemented every so often. With this formula, caring for Zombie is easy, and I have the ease of mind knowing he is getting everything he needs to be healthy, nourished, and happy. I appreciate the easy-to-follow instructions, and the pleasant sweet aroma I smell when stirring in the water. I also appreciate that the sweet scent is not overpowering, I can't even smell it in the living room where Zombie's tank is. I only smell it when I am preparing a fresh batch. :)

When I ordered my 1lb bag, it shipped all but immediately and arrived to my mailbox VERY fast. I feel like if I had somehow ran out of food before ordering, my gecko would not be hungry for long, because of the quick delivery time. For how well-rounded the food is, how much I got, and the great shipping, the price I payed was beyond fair, I feel!

I also like the foil resealable bag, seems like the optimal way to keep the food fresh, along with refrigerating as suggested on the label. I think the 1lb bag is meant for people with multiple geckos, because this is gonna last Zombie a LONG time! I will definitely order from here again though, and would recommend it to any of my friends.

I love that it is cheaper than purchasing the small 5 ounce bottles at the pet store, and then buying more and more weekly. They really love it too! Especially freshly made. I make about 10 ounces in advance to cut down grittiness and time it takes everyday to mix together, but, grittiness or not... They love it fresh!

The new flavor in this formula is a huge improvement! Our crestie subscribes to the "crickets are friends, not food" philosophy - she keeps them as pets. So we depend on CGD for the majority of her nutrition. She was not a huge fan of the earlier formulations, but she eagerly waits for her food to arrive now and eats the whole capful overnight.

Even more importantly, my sister's crestie was hit with a bout of MBD that nearly killed her - she went on a CGD strike and subsisted on fruit and the occasional cricket. The new formula has been a huge hit with her - she's finally eating CGD again and has significantly recovered.

We love the huge size - it lasts for a long time in the fridge and we don't have to remember to reorder as frequently!
