From the very first use the turner started to shred off small pieces of plastic. It appears the end is melting slightly with each use and then pieces fall off when washed. This is based on normal use for a turner. We have generally been pleased with KitchenAid products so I was surprised something as simple as a turner would be so poorly made.

Big disappointment here - melted on the end on the first or second (brief) use. Also despite claiming it's dishwasher safe, when it came out of the dishwasher the handle leaked nasty water out from the inside. Of course the way the handle is sloped that nastiness runs right down into the food if you don't notice it. Come on, pathetic! I like the size and angle of this thing but with the major issues I don't see how it's worth getting this over a cheaper thing. Will probably have to just toss it.

Not usually this picky but this is a -1 star for me.

My biggest problem with turners is how often I buy ones that melt when I am using them!

I have used this one to flip countless eggs and pancakes, and have yet to see any wear in the turner. Great product!

The front has melted both times I've used it (omelets; regular smooth top range and non-stick omelet pan) and somehow the side was melted this last time as well and coming off in a string. Hugely disappointed in Kitchen Aid and will try another brand.

Kitchen Aid did a fine job in making this spatula/slotted turner. It's larger than most ( 3 3/4" wide and about 5" long with a 9" long handle) and is great for lifting pancakes, wider burgers and fried eggs. The weight is light for ease in use. The spatula I've used for years is getting pretty well worn and newer ones I've bought have been so bad I've given them away...this one is a keeper!

The spoon has a nice weight and the plastic and the texture of the plastic will not scratch metal or non-stick pans (teflon etc). But the plastic feel too supple. I'm worried about breaking it when I cook and as a result I find myself not putting force on it when cooking and stirring.

Update 2014 (3 years later): the spoon has not broken, but the soft plastic still has drawbacks. You can't reasonably stir large, thick vats of food,e .g.g., chili. The spoon just bends too much and doesn't effectively stir, so I switch to a hard metal or wood spoon. Reducing from 4 stars to 3 stars as a result. Still a nice spoon.

Still great for pancakes. Changed to 3 stars after I used for a few weeks, burnt marks on the handle area. The handle is made of different material. Its my bad but it does not rest well on the rim of the pan.
