The shears in my knife block finally broke (not a KitchenAid brand set), and I got these as a replacement. They fit great in the slot where my old shears went (really important), but are sharper, a little heavier-weight & are more ergonomic than my old shears.

I hardly ever roast a chicken with the bones in anymore. I de-bone the entire chicken keeping it intact. Then I stuff, roll, and tie for a boneless stuffed chicken that can be evenly sliced through for consistent portions of meat and stuffing. That makes a beautiful meat platter before carving too. Also, to butterfly (spatchcock) for BBQ: just cut along both sides of the back-bone to remove it and then remove the keel bone. The chicken (or any bird) can be laid out flat for easy, even cooking on the grill (or for the broiler).

They are very sturdy & well-made. They cut whatever you want, plastic, bones, chicken, cord, paper...almost anything. If you need other functions like a nutcracker, bottle opener, fish scaler. and a screwdriver...etc, you can try Sage Kitchen Shears or Checkered Chef Shears as your second one. I hope this helps.

I have mixed feelings with these KitchenAid Shears and, despite the popularity, I hesitate to recommend them to others. While they are affordable, comfortable, and have excellent initial performance, the edge-holding ability of the blade steel is lackluster compared to some other shears that I have used. For a few dollars more there are other shears that I consider to be of superior build quality & performance, and I think many Buyers will find they prefer one of these other products over these KitchenAid shears.

===HOW I USE SHEARS IN THE KITCHEN===
I use shears for virtually any-and-every cutting task in a kitchen given their multipurpose design, so my ideal shears are ones capable of both light- and heavy-duty tasks. This includes occasionally cutting cardboard (some types can be brutal on edges as some cardboard is highly abrasive), harder raw vegetables, semi-frozen foods, and smaller bones. When shears are used to cut through harder and more abrasive objects, quality steel heat-treated to exhibit the properties of high wear resistance & good toughness/strength will yield the superior-performing product for me. But I don't think these KitchenAid shears fit that description as well as some other shear products I have used.

===WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THESE KITCHEN_AID SHEARS===
I am a big fan of the handle design. While not very nimble, the handle design is extremely comfortable with a semi-soft rubberized material and true ambidextrous ability. It works well for hands of many different sizes. Good design was given to the ergos and if you are using these for an extended period, they do a good job in reducing hand irritation/blistering. The included blade guard is also really nice for storage & transport.

Very nice shears for the price. They do cut chicken well ( that's what I use them for ) and are comfortable to use . I like the cover too, some don't have one. Size is good too as it does not take too much room in the drawer.

These are strong comfortable shears that are great around the kitchen. I use them to trim chicken along with cutting fresh spices in the garden. I would expect them to last forever.

The Kitchenaid Classic Shears do the job. Love the case and is easy to put on and remove. Great addition to your kitchen drawer since you'll probably use it many times daily, just dependable.

I purchased the Kitchenaid Classic Shears with soft grip about 3 months ago along with a pair of Mastrad A24105 Multi-Purpose Kitchen Scissors and a pair of J.A Henckels (2 years ago). I do not not hand wash them (perhaps I should), but rather I wash them in the dishwasher (top rack). After the first dishwasher run, they should multiple signs of rust (see images). I have not seen any rust whats so ever on the other two pairs of kitchen shears, nothing I would expect from this highly rated product. On a positive note, they seem to be very sharp and very comfortable. I would not recommend this product if you are like me and plan on washing them in the dishwasher, it may be a different story if you hand wash them and dry them immediately after washing.

Note: See images of the rust on the shears

I bought a pair of these Kitchenaid shears about a year ago and always regretted that I did not order more than one pair! I am over 60 years old and in my life time I have never came across scissors that are as good as these kitchen shears. They will cut just about anything. I use to hate buying meats that had a lot of fat or skin that you had to cut off because it would take me so long to do it with a knief or with other kitchen scissors--but not with these kitchen scissors--they are so sharp that the fat/skin comes off quickly as opposed to using other kitchen aids to do this tedious job. Not only that, but they are very precise--it is so easy to cut off fat that seems to be buried in the meat, that you would normally have to leave alone. So far I have not found any meat that these scissors would not cut through. I also use them to quickly cut up strips of chicken and strips of beef with ease.

I have found other uses for these scissor and not just for in the kitchen. I order items from Amazon all the time and most everything I get comes in those frustrating sealed plastic packages--which is almost impossible to get into, plus, the plastic cuts your hands when you try to get the plastic open. But not with these scissors, they cut right through the hard plastic and exactly where you want to cut. Now I am no longer frustrated by these sealed plastic packages. I have also used them to help open cardboard boxes that are sealed. One other thing, and it is not something I would normally do, but I even used them the other day to cut off a finger nail. I had a snagged fingernail and could not find my nail clippers. I was tired of that nail getting caught on everything I touched, so I tried cutting it off with these Kitchenaid sheers--no problem, cut them off and without a problem.
