I give a cat three pills in the evening and two in the morning, every day. I bought a single one of the Mikki pet pillers, and then found these. I saw that you could fill the syringe with water to help wash down the pills and thought that would be better. So I ordered two of them. I was very disappointed. From the first use, it was apparent that the pills did not fit well in the tip. These are small capsules and a half of an oval shaped tablet. The tip is a flexible but hard plastic, not the soft rubbery tip like the Mikki. And the shaft that pushes the pill out is so thin that it bends to one side instead of pushing the pill if the pill sticks to the tip at all. After several attempts with pulling the piller out of her mouth and finding the pill still stuck in the tip I gave up. I am going to buy several more of the Mikki ones and throw these two away.

I have an extremely stubborn cat who needs to be given a pill twice a day. After getting accidentally bit because I didn't get my finger out of the way quickly enough (which really hurt!) I decided to get a pill popper. Giving a cat a pill isn't nearly as easy as giving one to a dog since they have no snout to hold open. This has reduced the stress on both me and Ashley when it's time to do the nasty :)

It's extremely easy to use, I have small hands and have no difficulty operating this with a single hand. I have used it with just the tiny pill, but now that she only gets a half pill, I ordered small size gelatin caps to make it easier to administer the medication. It handles the capsules as easily as the pills.

You can fill the syringe with liquid so that a pill can be administered simultaneously (to help wash it down). I found this to just make a mess and was not necessary. It's held up very well, but I wouldn't suggest this one for larger sized pills as I can see that it would distort the tip.

If this wears out, I will absolutely order another. Shipped quickly, great price & a nice, solid device

I bought 3 different kinds of pill dispensing syringes for my dog. This one allows you to fill it first with water which helps flush the pill down the dog's throat. It really makes him swallow instead of trying to spit the pill back out. This was a real lifesaver when I had a foster dog with distemper that had to have several medications twice a day and would not take them in pill pockets. I used it with larger pills also. Occasionally the pill would not push out but for the most part it worked like a charm. I can't say the dog liked it , but I sure did!

The rubber tip on this product is defective. Where it is split, it opens in a wedge about 3/32 of an inch, instead of staying together. As a result, smaller pills just fall out. Maybe I could have put some tape around it to keep it closed... Also, the plunger is much smaller in diameter that the opening at the end of the split rubber tube, even when the tube is held so the split does not spread open. So, the plunger can get by smaller pills without pushing them out. If you need this for huge pills, and your dog won't take them as a treat, or in pill pockets, or in other scraps of food, like bread, meat, etc., then this may work for you.

The handle on this is larger than it needs to be, and the tip doesn't hold large pills/tablets. I bent the end flaps to hold a larger tablet, but it still didn't hold and now the flaps won't hold anything, since they don't bend back. I also found the handle awkward to use.
This might be more useful for smaller pills/tablets for smaller pets, like cats instead of dogs.

My cat became suddenly ill with liver failure and he was prescribed a pill to take every day. Out of desperation I ran up to a veterinary supply store and the lady showed me the 2 pill poppers they had for sale.
I ended up buying both of them since I had never 'pilled' a cat before and I wanted to make it as least traumatizing as possible.
I thought this Lixit pill popper would be great because I was specifically looking for a soft-tip piller, and by the description I thought this was it, plus I was looking for one that I could add water to, to help him swallow the pill.

Well for one, the tip really isn't soft. It's more like a slightly bendable plastic. And secondly, the tip is so small the pill he has to take won't even fit in it.

I generously gave this 3 stars because IF you have a small enough pill, and IF you are looking for a hard tipped pill popper that you can add water to, then maybe this is right for you.
After watching several videos online, 'practicing' and then failing with the pill poppers, I ended up just using my hand to administer the pill.

Don't let the bad reviews fool you. This thing works great. I could not get my cat to swallow his pills until I got this little gem. You need to insert well to the back of the cat's throat and "shoot" the pill in. If done correctly, the pill is gone and the whole thing is over in a second with no one hurt :) You DO need a second person to hold puddy cat down on his back while you do this.

A little background history... we rescued an adult cat who was being fostered. There was no medical history, all we knew as it had "allergies" and that it wasn't gaining any weight (skin and bones!). It was a pure bred Tonkinese female and I quickly suspected it was ill. I got it to my vet quickly to discover it not only had an upper respiratory infection, but hyperthyroidism and it was older than first suspected. Why the foster "parent" never had any blood work done on a senior cat with no medical history is beyond me, but at least I save a life. Anyway, after a bout of pancreatitis from the stress of moving her, and on top of that, into a home with 8 other cats, we were able to start giving her the thyroid pills. At first, she gobbled up the cream cheese "treats" and everyone was happy, then 2 days later, cream cheese gone, little pink pill is on the floor... next step, pry open mouth, pop down throat, hold mouth shut until she swallows. Wise cat, she won't swallow, spits pill out. Next step, pry open mouth. pop down throat, hold mouth shut, get plastic syringe with water and put water down her throat several times. Unfortunately, in the time it took too get the water, she had time to hide the pill and spit it out after a few bouts of water! Clearly, she's taken pills before! That's when I went hunting for these so called pill guns. This one looked the best, because it had the water and on occasion, the water trick did work, just not always. So, did it work?

Yes, it works! Let's start with what not to do.

1. Do not put it the side of the cats mouth. While this works for liquid medications, it doesn't work for this.
