I have used the Froth-Pak 200 to air-seal rim joists--the area above the foundation wall in a basement. The first time I used it I did not shake the canisters well enough and the foam did not cure properly. Don't just shake the box for a few seconds. I take the tanks out of the box so I can shake/invert each tank for a minute or two. You will be able to hear the chemical sloshing around in the tanks. Also, don't ignore the recommended temperature for application--around 75 degrees F.
The uncured foam will drip off the end of the gun so make sure you protect any surfaces. I've always worked in unfinished basements and it has been easy to clean up the cured foam by scraping it off the cement floor.

Safety: I wear a Tyvek suit with hood; nitrile gloves; goggles and a half-face respirator with vapor cartridges. You also need to learn how to properly dispose of the empty tanks and any leftover chemical depending on the laws in your area.

For the average do-it-yourselfer, it would be much cheaper, easier, and safer to air seal with one-part foam (something like Great Stuff Pro with an application gun) and then insulate with fiberglass batts.

Okay I read through a few of these reviews after I already bought the product elsewhere for cheaper and they got me worried. But after thoroughly reading the instructions and following the directions I had not one hiccup. The product came out flawlessly and both containers lasted the same amount of time. I was spraying the box sill of my house and the basement temp was about 55. The instructions say the product must be above 75 for optimal usage. So I put them in front of a heater before going down in the basement keeping an eye on the temp of the containers not to exceed 120. I did not apply petroleum to the nozzle as the instruction had suggested not did I test spray before putting the nozzle on. I didn't put the jelly on only because I wasn't expecting to have to change tips cause I was to use all the product in one use which i did. But I am not sure why some were saying it was messy cause I was wearing a spray suit and hood and respirator and the whole thing barley had any little specks on it so I'm thinking the other users were not applying it correctly or had the wrong temp for the product. This stuff worked great I would use again if I had to but it is very spendy. So I wouldn't use it for just any insulating job only the ones where I needed to seal air gaps. Oh I also shook the two cans very well for about 20 seconds together tipping them over and everything.

Bought froth spray foam 200 to insulate rim joist. I first fitted 2" thick polyiso foam board to each pocket. I then soaked both tanks in warm water for an hour, in my laundry sink. I removed the plastic band by slinding it off. I then removed the handle and shook the foam canster. I then soaked them for another 30 minutes. The thermometer read 95° I then reinstalled the handle than the plastic band. I greased up the tip socket and test fitted the clear tip. Then removed the tip. Turned the valves 3 turns each and test fired the gun in a plastic bag. I then installed the tip, got my ladder ready my respirator, my head light, latex gloves and my plan of attack. I first sealed each panel making sure the top of the wall was also sealed. I used a light trigger alot. Meaning i didnt squeeze the trigger full open when sealing. I than went back over each pocket with a second coat making sure everything was covered. I only used 1 nozzel and 1 pair of gloves. I was able to cover 114 lft of rim joist, in 1 hour. The nozzel leaked alot and had build up on fingers under nozzel. Also dripped some. Was thinking about buying another pack to fill rim joist completely. I am very satisfied with the kit. 2 bad things i did. Short sleeve shirt and plastic prescription glasses. I ruined the glasses and i have a couple of specs of foam on my right arm hair.

Product works as advertised. Remember to prep the areas you're spraying 100% before even opening the valves. This means cover the floors, drape walls with plastic, etc...anywhere you don't want overspray, protect those areas. If the canisters are cold, let them warm up for a day or two in a heated area. READ THE DIRECTIONS!!! Shake both canisters individually for at least a minute .Determine which nozzle is appropriate for the area being sprayed, a fan tip or a direct spray tip. Test spray into a bucket so the product mixes when it comes out of the gun.for the area being sprayed. When I started spraying, I had all areas prepped and sprayed until product was gone. 1 inch of foam is a 6.0 R-Value...so I laid it on 4 inches thick. Yes...it's toxic as hell, that's why you wear a full Tyvek suit, gloves, and a respirator with chemical cartridges. This stuff was made for professional insulators, and I've seen it used on many, many commercial jobs that I've been on...on areas that were added by the architect and the insulators didn't want to bring their truck mounted foam insulator machine back to the site. If you don't think you can do it or follow the directions to a "T", I don't recommend you try. Hire it out.

Product works ok if you follow the directions. I had an issue with the foam coming out runny, so I read the directions and found the solution. It is very expensive for what you get so I would recommend using this product on small areas that need insulation.
