I don't know what's going on - this item appeared to be a genuine replacement for the original temptrol mixer valve. Unfortunately it was slightly oversized, which caused it to bind in the valve socket. After two showers this binding overtaxed the plastic handle causing it to snap - requiring further repairs. Fortunately I had saved the original valve so I moved the new O-ring to the old valve, swapped valves, and am now back in business except I now need to replace the handle. For now I've snagged the handle off of a different and relatively unused shower control. It's annoying though and it shouldn't have happened. I checked out the new valve and don't see any burs or other bulges so I think it's just a quality-control issue on their part.

The biggest issue I had was figuring out how to remove the old one...but that was short work when I found a site recommending using a lag (5/16 x 3 inches) bolt. Screw the bolt in and pull out with some vice grips...worked a treat! Don't forget to grease the o-ring with some lithium grease before installation.

Just a terrible part that causes all kinds of ceiling water damage. And when you find out your ceiling is gone. If you have a symmons valve do yourself a favor and replace be fore you damage your ceilings
