After reading the reviews on several jusicers, I chose this one because it seemed to have the "right stuff". According to the users, it has a good metal bowl, is easy to clean and does a good job of juicing.

I found all these things to be true. The pulp is quite dry, it does a really good job, and the mouth is large enough for good sized pieces to be fed into the juicer. It also has a collection cup that has a wall in it that helps seperate the foam from the juice. Overall we were quite happy with it.

BUT...(read to the end for an update 1 year later)

We have used it less than 100 times, and found a problem. There are locking straps that hold the lid down. instead of making the buckle out of metal, they are made out of plastic, and one of them has broken. We now have a juicer that looks good on the counter, and is not worth much more than a paper weght...

For the first couple of months we were really happy with it, but it is not durable enough for daily use. If you intend to juice daily, then look elsewhere.

Just an update, I went to the Kuvings web site, and ordered several replacement clips. While not ideal, it was a cheap alternative to buying a new juicer. I have so far only replaced on strap. We use it regularly, and it does a GREAT job of juicing. So far everything else has been durable, and the replacement straps are cheap. We bought several, and it has worked like a champ.

May 2013: One year later, and I still like this juicer. It works well and except for the straps, which are easy to get, it has had no other problems. I recommend this product! It is a good juicer for the money.

(After breaking 2 straps in the first three months, we have not broken another.)

I firmly believe in the benefits of juicing and have owned quality juicers for 25 years. First a quick primer on the 3 different types of juicers. First came the centrifugal design. This design had a feeding tube where cut vegetables or fruits were placed and pushed down with a plunger. This pushed the item onto a round blade that was spinning at several hundred RPMs and shreds it, releasing it's juices. The shreds are were pulled outward and pressed against a circular screen by the huge centrifugal force generated by the rapidly spinning motor. The solids were trapped while the juice was allowed to pass through the screen and fell into a channel that collected it and directed it to a spout in the front where the juice flowed into a glass. The trouble with this system was that the shreds accumulate inside the internal mesh basket and it fills fairly quickly. This can block the flow of liquid to be filtered through the mesh and also can throw the entire juicer off balance as it spins very rapidly. When that happens, the juicer must be turned off, opened up, the pulp removed and only then could the process continue. Or if you were finished, still the mesh basket must be scooped out and brushed under a stream of water to remove the particles trapped in the small holes. Frankly, it was so labor intensive and time consuming, it was discouraging to all but the most intrepid juicers. Another type of juicer still used is called a masticating juicer. This usually has two cylindrical posts spaced close together that also rotate, but at a much slower rpm. When a vegetable is fed into the feeding tube instead of being shred, it is masticated or crushed and the juice is squeezed out and into some container at the bottom to catch it.Read more ›

i originally was going to buy the breville juicer because of all the hype of fat sick and nearly dead documentary, but they messed up my payment...so i choose this one instead...i got this juicer last week and it is amazing..im a first time juicer and i am conquering all types of juices, my first juice was carrot juice and it was amazing, juice came out great, pulp was dry...i then threw in whole apples, juices those up great...this is a great juicer, and for a first time juicer and beyond i dont think you will be disappointed...oh and clean up is FAST!

This review will be done with the Breville BJE510XL in mind, since that is the juicer that I have been using for the last year. Not only am I comparing it to the Breville, the product seems to have a strong resemblance to my Breville from a design perspective. They both break down in the same manner and have the same components.

First impressions
It doesn't come with a jug -- that is just weird. The spout is too high for me to output the juice into a mug or a cup, so what nature of receptacle are they expecting their customers to own ?

When putting food in for the first time, the teeth just dragged down the chute which is something I hadn't seen with the Breville. So far this has done a great job creating juice ... but then it is brand new; it will be interesting to see how sharp everything is in a year or if I'll have to replace the cutting/mesh element.

It gives an unsettling sharp jump on the countertop when you first start it. The only way that would ever be an issue is if you had a laptop there and a glass of water between the juicer and the laptop. Other than that, it shouldn't be an issue. In contrast the Breville spins up to the selected speed, but the Kuvings just gets there faster, which I am sure is the reason for is twist.

Once used - cleaning is done in the same way as with the Breville but the brush supplied to clean the mesh is 20 times better than the one with the Breville - much faster. I just wish the handle of the brush was wider for scraping off pulp - that takes longer than with the Breville.

Pros
The component with the spout is metal and it cleans easily; the Breville stains easily with carrot juice and I have yet to see that with the Kuvings.Read more ›
