I first bought this at Target about 6 months ago and then recently bought another one here on Amazon. It's a good thing I bought one at Target first or I would of believed all the bad reviews.

First like everyone says, when you get it, it is razor sharp. So incredibly sharp it will shave the hair off your arm. However some are saying it gets dull in a few months and there is no way to sharpen it. Here is where I want to tell everyone. Don't put it in the dishwasher!! It's supposed to be common knowledge not to put any of your good knifes in the dishwasher. Dishwasher detergent contains hard polishing particles which will take an edge off any good knife, metal or ceramic. I guess these guys who complain are just constantly resharpening their metal knives every couple weeks and never realize the reason they get dull is the dishwasher. It is true, you can not sharpen this knife, so don't put it in the dishwasher. Also, the blade chips easy if amateur cooks bang it against something harder than ceramic like a granite counter top. Just use this knife like any expensive high quality knife and use a wood or plastic HDPE type cutting board and you won't chip your edge.

The design feature I like most about this knife compared to other ceramic knives is the physical shape. The way the cutting edge extends far below the handle. This way you're not getting your knuckles in the food when you chop. Some complain that the blade breaks off because the whole blade width is not up in the handle. I've had no problem with this. The area where the blade connects to the handle is very thick. I imagine it would take a lot of force to break it off, the solution is just don't over-stress the knife. If it's not cutting don't force it. The same way you would do with any high quality knife.

This is a great price for a very high quality knife. I think more people just need to understand how to properly care for a good quality knife.

I bought this knife for my wife for Christmas (2011). She has loved the knife, but she has commented that it no longer cuts through tomato skins as easily as it did before. It only stayed sharp for 7 months. I don't believe that they can be sharpened. I will not be buying another Kitchen Aid Product if they misrepresent their products. I was generous with the two stars because it was a good knife while it was sharp.

I bought this knife at Target 2 or 3 years ago and paid $30 or $35 (that was money well spent, and this is an even better price). Best knife I have ever used. Not as sharp as when I bought, but it is still my go to knife after 1000's of uses (I have lots of knives, some that I paid a lot more for). After all this time it still will cut a soft tomato. Ceramic is very, very strong, but also brittle (like diamonds). Don't smash garlic or work around bones.

I've put it in the dishwasher, but after reading one of the comments about DW soap I will only hand wash after this.

Yes, it is sharp. Is it safe? Not in my opinion. It is so sharp that if you do anything wrong you are going to slice yourself up. The blade is brittle and light and you tend to think it's not a serious knife because it is so light. In fact, for slicing softer things it is excellent. However, I threw mine away as it was just too much like a big scalpel and I was concerned I'd slice a finger off if it ever slipped. Well made and all that but I did end up with safety concerns and as this was an experiment, I junked it.

Bluntly put, this knife is.. blunt. If you are used to properly sharp knives (which are normally a joy to use), then this one feels like a kitchen knife that is in need of sharpening. However because it is ceramic, you can't sharpen it with ease like a regular knife. I bought it at a department store in a pinch after moving, and frankly the price is far too much for what amount to a fragile, blunt knife. It gets a point for having a good handle and looking reasonably attractive. It's being replaced with some proper steel!

I love ceramic knives and I purchased this one as a Christmas gift for my mother. She wasn't impressed when she opened it. But after giving it a shot she loves it. This is a nice size and the handle is comfortable to use.

I got both this small one and the larger one. A lot of reviewers are complaining that these knives lose their edge quickly and can not be resharpened. The truth is they come very sharp, so razor sharp that you can shave the hair off your arm with them. The trick to keeping them sharp seems to be a long forgotten rule. DO NOT PUT THEM IN THE DISHWASHER!! Dishwasher detergent contains polishing compounds, small hard particles to polish your dishes. These particles will polish the edges off any nice sharp knife. I guess people forgot about this because metal knives can be resharpened so easy. But really you shouldn't put any good high quality knife in the dishwasher. I think this is why many people are losing their edge. These are really great knives. I also like the handle design. Especially the larger version of this knife. It keeps your knuckles out of the food. The other brands don't seem to take this into consideration.

Take the advice seriously about using this knife only for soft fruits and vegetables!

In the first place, this knife wasn't as sharp as a Henckels knife right out of the box. We peel about 15 boxes of peaches every summer, and by the time we had peeled a box or two, we were calling dibs on the Henckels knife.

Six weeks later, this KitchenAid knife broke when my wife was using it. I'm sure she was cutting something hard, like a yam, but since we didn't read any cautions on the package, we were certainly surprised. If this knife were demonstrably sharper than others, I could see it as worthwhile for the recommended use. In our case, it was a complete waste since it wasn't even very sharp.
