Go to Home Depot or Lowes and get yourself a piece of 1/2" or 1" pvc pipe and cut it to the size you need. That is all this is. You could definitely get more for you money by buying one long piece of pipe instead.

They are not solid like most dowels. These look like a thick straw. I wish the description would tell you that.

This is not at all what I expected. I purchased those to hold a wedding cake in place. From the description, I was under the impression that you could cut the rods down to your exact height. It may be true since I haven't tried but the width was the real issue and way too big to use in my cake. I ended up not touching those and buying some wood ones in a store. I am not sure why you would use those for baking but I wouldn't recommend it. The rods are also hollow and because they are wide, I would think it would get fairly messy.

For a novice cake decorator who got talked into making her son's wedding cake, Wilton makes lovely cake decorating accessories to help with every step. Loved the dowel rods! This cake had a 16" square base, 10" sq middle layer and 6" top layer all set 90 degrees. For a first wedding cake, it was amazing with Wilton's help!

I like these for stacked cake because they provide the same stability as a wooden dowel but are easier to use. They are easy to cut with scissors and make much less of a mess than sawing down dowels to length. I highly recommend these.

These are a must have for anyone who bakes tiered cakes! These can be cut to size easily (we actually use a saw for consistency) and hold up heavy cakes on top of layers. Be sure to cut them after the cake is frosted though or you will have too short of dowels. If you haven't used these, you must try them! They work better than any other product!

Very sturdy and supported my 2-tiered cake very well, just wish they were easier to cut. I used a serrated knife (as they said was the best way to trim them to length) and they were extremely difficult to cut and then did not cut evenly. If you have a heavier, multi layered cake though there is no way it's sagging with these babies!
