Amazon sent me a pair of amber colored lensed MLG gaming glasses instead of these by accident, so I can include a comparison. The amber colored lenses definitely seem like they will reduce eye strain more than the crystal lenses, but as a graphic designer I need a pair that doesn't FUBAR colors, hence the crystal lensed Phenoms.

The packaging that these come in is a fort knox clam-shell which is sealed over the much nicer cardboard and plastic packaging. The problem is the plastic from the nice packaging looks like it is a part of the clam-shell so you can inadvertently cut up the nice packaging underneath if you surgically remove the glasses from the tiny pod of plastic they are contained in, like I did.

Clam-shell packaging is designed to discourage in-store shoplifting. Since I don't imagine these glasses actually sit on the shelf of many retail stores and chains, I think the company is making a frustrating misstep by wrapping up an awesome package design in a horrendous clam-shell plastic fort knox-balrog-jabberwocky-grendel-old ironsides outer layer. Glasses seem great. Minus one star for making me use a blade to open the packaging. I hate confrontation and having to whip out a blade and say to my new glasses "I will cut you" is not a good first impression. I did not want to escalate my purchase to Greaser versus Soc knife fight right away, but that Soc clam-shell was being all stingy with my product. Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold.

Pros:

Sharpens text.
Doesn't change screen color.
Style is nice.
Quality construction.

Cons:

Packaging
Smudge easily
A little tight on my temples.

Just got these today and so far they are excellent. Nice quality construction. We'll see how they hold up as I'll be wearing them 12-16hrs a day. Visual acuity of my screen is definitely improved. Sitting at my normal distance, text is sharper and clearer than without the glasses. These are the 'crystal' lenses and colors change only very slightly while wearing these glasses. Because of this slight color shift I probably won't use these while editing photos but they should be great for reading, surfing and playing games. No more straining and squinting while trying to read at a comfortable distance.

I chose this product because I work in front of a computer screen for an average of 14 hours a day. With my bad eyesight, I couldn't afford for my eyes to be strained and worsen my vision. Gunnar seemed to be the best company for computer glasses, so I decided to purchase these glasses. I'm fairly young, so $100 is a small price to pay to keep my vision. I received the package within the predicted shipping time, and initially, I was quite satisfied. I wore contacts with this product.

The product's frame is made out of a strong metal / metal-like substance. Although the frame is somewhat thin, it is very durable, and I have no doubt it could last a while. (My coworker bought gamma ray computer glasses, and the difference in construction quality is beyond obvious.) The lenses have a slight tint, almost unnoticeable. If you use this product for art or graphic work, you may need to take them off. However, for most people including myself, you will not notice much difference. The lenses also refocus the screen so that it looks to be further than it actually is. Finally, the design is supposed to create a more humid environment around your eyes.

My initial impression was that the product is high quality (I still think that). However, I decided to return these for several reasons. First, I still had dry eyes. Second, as others mentioned, it smudges easily, so you have to clean them every day. I could deal with all of that, but the deal-breaker was the refocusing of the lenses. For the first week or two, I could see fine, and the product seemed to help. After that, I began to have issues focusing on close vs. far objects after I looked away from my computer screen. I think that may be because of my contacts.

Here's a breakdown of my scenario:

- Blue eyes (pretty sensitive to light)
- Wear contacts
- Work in IT in front of computer screen(s) - 8 hrs a day / 5 days a week
- Play computer games and side jobs from home on computer - 3-4 hrs a day / 5 days a week

Total time in front of computer screen: 11-12 hours a day / 5 days a week

I often get headaches and dry eyes while working on the computer. I've tried dimming the monitors, adjusting my distance from the computer screen and taking breaks. The 20/20/20 rule just isn't feasible while I'm at work either. So, I picked up these things after reading a bazillion positive reviews on them.

I admit, the faint yellow tint does indeed cut down the annoying, white glare of computer screens and makes it pleasant to work on. But, for whatever reason, I still get headaches and dry eyes even while wearing them. I think the claim that they will solve all your problems in front of a computer are a bit of a stretch.

As I write this review, I'm wearing them with the screen dimmed as low as it can go (still pretty bright), room lights on (its worse when lights are off) and a distance of about 2.5 ft from the monitor.

My summary, at least in my scenario, is that the slight benefit they provide for the faint yellow tint does not justify the $100 price tag.
