Bought 5 gallons after reading reviews. I am restoring a vintage 40 year old motor cycle and have used it on chrome fenders, trim parts, and gas tank. Wow, it really works. I placed the parts in a Rubbermaid bin pour in the metal rescue, cover with a lid and let it sit for a day. Really bad parts required a multi step process of soaks followed by wire brushing. Common sense is required, if you prep and protect your bare metal using basic industrial standards this product will exceed your expectations. When I was done I filtered it with fine mesh paint filters and put it back in the bucket so its ready to use again. This is the best product I purchased in years! ignore the trolls and haters who give 1 star because they failed to use it correctly, remember this product can not remove stupid.

Used Metal Rescue to remove rust from an old Honda motorcycle gas tank. Metal rescue worked exactly as advertised. Follow directions and keep the tank warmer than 68 degrees while using Metal Rescue. Rust gone, inside of tank a nice grey color.

My brother just bought an 05 Honda CBR 600rr with less than 2000 miles. His friend did not ride it for about 4-5 years. There was apparent rust in the tank. We removed it, followed instructions and it worked slightly. You can see that it removed some rust but the majority of it was still in the tank. If it was exposed, a little agitation and everything would have came off. But the fact that it was a "tank", i could not clean all the nooks unless i split it in half and re-weld it together. If you are using this for tanks and other hard to reach areas beware. This might not be the best idea. I still have to buy a new tank.

Update 9/4/12

After I saw a comment from Metal Rescue regarding my review, I decided to call them on my experience. Speaking with their rep, Cheri, was a delight. I believe we both learned something from this product. I for one, should have kept the fluid to use for future projects since it could be reusable and there is more to write about that some other time. I think they do more than most manufacturers. They certainly value what people think and it shows. In conclusion, Metal Rescue, does stand behind the customer's satisfaction and I recommend you certainly look into their product. It would also help to call them if you have any questions where these reviews do not cover them.

I purchased this to remove rust from a 1981 Honda Gold Wing gas tank. The five gallon bucket came well packaged and arrived very fast.
I placed the gas tank into a plastic container (to catch any spills) and poured the entire five gallon bucket in it. I then place a couple of old blankets around the plastic container and place a heating pad on the top. I left it set this way for two days and it looks like new inside. Before using metal Rescue the gas tank was considered a complete loss due to setting empty for 11 years, the surface rust was very bad. If this product had not worked the only other option was to take it to a radiator shop and pay them a ton of money to try fixing it with no guarantee. I should have taken better pictures before and after, because no one will want to believe how well this stuff works.

I am more than satisfied with this product and WILL buy more when needed.I intend to tell everyone I like about the product, those I don't like I will let them figure it out the hard way.

I purchased a vintage candy machine that is 95 years old. The insides mechanism is all metal and had rust everywhere. I used a wire wheel on a drill to try to get the rust of, It did not work very well and it would not get into all of the tight places, I would have had to take the mechanism apart which I did not want to do because I was afraid I would break something and would not get a replacement part. I purchased a gallon of metal rescue and soaked the machine for 24 hours and it tool all the rust off. This stuff is amazing. I used a coffee filter when I poured it back in the bottle so I can have a good clean product when I use it on my next project. I highly recommend this product, it is a must have in anyone garage.

Let me state at the outset, I am not a representative of any of the following products and I did not received a product for testing.

I have been using Naval Jelly aka Loctite 553472 16 Fluid Ounce Naval Jelly Rust Dissolver or Permatex 81756 Rust Dissolver Gel, 8 oz. for years. However, in a recent project I became very disenchanted with this product. I left many small steel tools exposed to a moist environment and they became covered in rust. I put the tools on dinner plate and covered them with Naval Jelly. After 20 minutes, I tried to remove the rust with a 3M abrasive green pad. Very little rust came off. So I added more Naval Jelly and left it on for a few hours. When I came back the Naval Jelly had reacted with the tools and the rust had “bubbled up” and was far worse. From what I understand the active ingredient in Naval Jelly is phosphoric acid.

Another product I looked at is Boeshield Rust Free. I am a big fan of Boeshield because they make the best rust preventative product Boeshield T-9 which I will describe later. However, Boeshield Rust Free also has phosphoric acid.
