So I had to return the horrendous Soundstream Harmony because I had already tried two and neither worked right, I got the Alpine, connected it, and it didn't turn on. I thought maybe you had to run the computer on it first, so I plugged in my laptop and it turned on. I was able to run the auto eq on it with no problems. I disconnected it, turned off the vehicle, turned it back on and it won't turn on. I called Alpine, turns out you HAVE to buy the remote control unit for the product to work. I told them I didn't need a remote because I am using the auto EQ feature. They said there is no work around, you have to buy the remote. So now I have a 250.00 remote that sits in the back of my trunk doing nothing just so this unit can turn on. That is very bogus, Alpine, I know you really like your remote (since you are changing 250.00 for it) but my head unit still takes care of the fade, balance and sub control even when your unit is connected. I don't need your remote control. I will even pay 20.00 for a little USB device to plug in that does nothing but allow the unit to turn on without the remote. I am sure you can make some money on that. This unit is worth the 699 for the sound improvements and the auto EQ but it's not worth 950.00. Please Alpine, I will sell my brand new never been touched still in the bubble wrap remote control from the back of my trunk back to you at a 100 dollar loss just to have something that will allow this unit to work. I know you can do it guys. I'm asking nicely and I could really use my 250 dollars back.

The online information around this was a bit unclear. I thought I would be able to set it up via a computer and use it with my factory head unit, but I misread the details. You need either the RUXC800 controller or a compatible Alpine Head Unit to operate (turn on) the processor without a computer.
I also found the Imprinting processing a bit lacking. If you're using a factory head unit and set up the Imprint, you must use the RUXC800 controller for your volume control. I found that this created a number of issues with using the head unit; the worst of which was the hands free telephone feature was very distorted and unusable. Also, the Imprint compensation made the sub very boomy, the highs very shrill, and the midrange very low. I have since reset the unit and began tuning myself with an RTA and have much better results.

Alpine is the only manufacturer who still offers high end audio solutions. Those who complain about the controller being sold separate need to do their homework. Alpine still does it right when their competitors seem to be lost. Buy it and listen to the difference! A+++
