There is a short story about why I purchased this knife. I am an engineering student and it is kind of like a status thing to own and EDC a good knife. One of my mentors at the engineering college made fun of my Spyderco Pacific Salt. My response was that I like to have low maintenance knives that I don't need to worry about rusting like my Pacific Salt because it is made of H-1 steel. He had a Strider knife and I don't have nearly enough money to buy one of those.

I bought this knife primarily because the blade is made out of VG-10 steel and it is significantly cheaper than other knives made with the same steel. The other reason I purchased this knife was because it is a tanto shaped blade and I felt that it was time to add a folding tanto knife to my collection. There is a variety of reasons why I wanted a tanto point knife but it came down to the fact that there are two separate edges on the blade that could be sharpened independently. If you were to use the tip more often then you could just sharpen the tip part versus having to sharpen the entire blade and I like that.

VG-10 steel is very hard and rust resistant. It holds an edge for a long time and is much more durable that many other types of steels such as AUS-8 or other various stainless steel types. The downside to having such hard steel is that it does take longer to sharpen because it is so hard.

The handle is made out of G-10 and the texture on it gives it an excellent grip. But unfortunately the lanyard hole is really small. I have no idea what sort of lanyard would fit into the hole; maybe one of those cheap ones with the thin string at the end or something. Paracord will not fit through that hole if you were wondering or planning on doing that.

This is a very nice knife. I have had a lot of knives and carry one everywhere I go, and I like this one. Blade is sharp and solid. Locking mechanism is positive and actually takes breaking in. Finish is good. Handle is thin. At first I thought this was bad, but I got used to it in a few uses and now really appreciate how little room it seems to take in my pocket. Pocket clip is tight at first and broke in in about a week. Holds it in easy reach. One hand open/close is simple and fast. Used it for some prying with no chipping of the edge. This is the best knife under $50 I've seen so far. Blade really deserves highlighting. It is really a confident tool and well designed. Camillus is now up with SOG on my list.

Large enough to open & close one-handed while wearing gloves. Tanto style blade measures 3 1/2" L x 1 1/2" W with thumb studs and a stiff solid liner lock holding it securely in place when open and locked. Uniquely, this blade has a false back edge at the tip rather than the usual distal taper, giving this a bit more of a dagger look than the pictures here show, and a nice design feature utilizing the superior hardness of VG-10 steel "Camillus Carbonitride Titanium" is printed in small letters on one side of the blade, and "VG-10" on the other side. VG-10 is the blade material, an excellent stainless "super steel" containing 0.95-1.05% Carbon, plus Manganese, Chromium, Vanadium, Molybdenum, and Cobalt, and used by e.g. Spyderco for its Seki City produced knives, with a really good HRC value of 59-61. Carbonitride Titanium is the dark gray (not true black) flat coating on the blade, which so far has not rubbed off. Along with the black handle and hardware, this knife has a dark tactical stealth look to it. I like the feel of opening and closing the blade because it is so secure. All screws are Torx so the knife can be disassembled and cleaned as needed. The only limitation is that the clip cannot be moved, only removed, so your choice is either to carry it clipped with the blade tip-down and opening to the left, or to remove the clip, etc. Regardless, this knife is first rate and possibly the best of its kind at this price because of the VG-10 steel. Military tough but just small enough to be a reasonable pocket knife for EDC (depending on local law). Assembled in China, but does not say so on the knife (at least that I can find). VG-10 steel is produced in Japan, but the knife does not say this either. So if you are looking for something that does not advertise it was made overseas, this meets your criterion.

Only had this a short while, but it's fantastic.

First thing first:
Yes. It's made in China.
Yes. It is VG10.

Now that the basic is done, onto some more info!

It's balanced at the finger-divot/blade-lock. It's a great central balance. Very nice. Balanced it both vertically (blade facing down and up) and horizontally.

The blade comes sharp. Slice through paper quick or slow without any issue. Have not heavily used it yet though (work retail warehousing. It's slowed down for work). Mirror-finished blade-edge though. No issues with what I have used it for though. No chipping or wear.

Black blade finish... don't know how it will stand-up to long use. Could say the same to most knives though. No highly visible scratches yet (cut a few pop-cans to test. Seemed at first like major scratches, but was just aluminum residue. Very minor blemish lines show at scratch marks when angled under light. Not visible otherwise).

G10 Scales feel great.

Torque screws for every spot means ease of re-building if needed.

No play of blade when locked or closed. Blade is smooth in movement and lies just barely off-center (very minor push of the lock when closed). No grinding anywhere (nowhere near the walls of the handle). Proper lock-bed does not allow the blade to touch anything when closed (as it shouldn't).

Overall. At $40, this knife is one hell of an EDC. It's fantastic.
