I feel horrible for feeding my dog Pedigree dog food for nine years. It wasn't until he got older and began developing problems that we were told to look at the ingredients in his food, so we did. I was absolutely shocked to find that the first seven ingredients were corn, wheat, or another grain. When it finally got to protein, which was way down the list, the ingredients listed it as "meat product". For the same price, we found much healthier dog food with lamb listed as the very first ingredient.

Now that I know, I feel horrible for feeding my dog Pedigree dog food for nine years.

I bought this dog food after my twelve year old pit/hound mix stopped eating another major brand. He scarfs this up like it was a bowl of beef liver. The food is processed into small pellets about the size of a slightly flattened green pea which mixes thoroughly and easily with canned dog food, a bit of scrambled egg or a splash of chicken broth. However, our pooch seems to like it dry almost as much as mixed with other protein. Even the cats will nibble on any leftover bits during the day. Amazon offers a reasonable price and combined with Prime free shipping this provides a convenient alternative to hauling heavy bags of dog food home from the grocery store.

Please..look at the ingredients in this before you buy it. The first ingredient (which means the largest ingredient) is CORN... not chicken, not pork but corn. It goes on to say "meat and bone meal".. if you google that, you'll see that's not good either ..."meat" means scraps from probably more than one animal :( Do your homework and spend a few more dollars on some decent dog food for your dogs. This is not good food for them!

We have been feeding this food to my dogs for years and they love it. I decided to start ordering it from Amazon to save a little money and for the convenience of not having to run to the store constantly since we have two big dogs. However, since I started feeding them the bags delivered from Amazon they have both been very sick and not able to keep any food down. I took them to the vet this morning and was told they have no other health issues so it is probably the food they are eating. Unfortunately since this is a grocery item I can't even return the food that is making my dogs so sick. My rating is not for Pedigree, we still love them. But I would advise against ordering dog food of any kind from Amazon if it can go bad and make your dog sick.

***UPDATE: After contacting Amazon about the food making our dogs sick, they refunded the entire order despite me not being able to return it. The rest of the bad food will be thrown in the garbage now. The low rating does not reflect Amazon's excellent customer service. ***

I bought this food last month for 12 dollars a bag. What happened? Great dog food for dogs that cant have corn. (many vets say the ear problems that dogs have are due to an alergy to corn). I had planned on ordering all the time from Amazon. Then the price went from 12 dollar a bag to 30?

If anyone would have told me I would buying dog food on line I'm quite sure I wouldn't have believed them but it's very handy, competitively priced, and it arrived in great shape. I've bought 10 lb. boxes of Milk Bone biscuits from Amazon also and that too worked out well. It's very handy when you're feeding a cross between a Yellow Lab and a Shetland pony. At least that's the way it seems as Zane weighs about a hundred and a half.

However, I read some pretty poor reviews of the nutritional value and decided to switch to another brand.
