Chocolate connoisseur Robert Steinberg and winemaker John Scharffenberger founded Scharffen Berger Chocolate Maker in 1977.

If you are a fan of dark chocolate, than this box of Schaeffen Berger tasting squares would be a real treat. The chocolate is creamy and smooth, and has wonderful fruity undertones and a tart aftertaste. The intense chocolate flavor will linger on your taste buds long after the chocolate is gone.
The Milk version is a little more intense than regular milk chocolate, but still velvety smooth and rich. It also has the signature fruity Scharffen Bergen flavor that hints of berries and citrus. The 62% Semisweet is as smooth as the Milk but has that extra little bite of cocoa. The Milk and 62% Semisweet were by far my favorites. The 70% bittersweet is good but was verges on being bitter, and the 82% Extra Dark is just a little too bitter for me to enjoy.
Also be aware that the box, while adorable, is a very small (6" x 4-1/2"). The box is very well made and has a magnet snap that keeps it closed. There is a very nice label and a cute little bow. But it is small. You don't really get a sense of how small from the manufacture's photos. The squares of chocolate are also petite. They are slightly larger than 1" square and about 1/8" thick. Just enough for a single bite or taste. Honestly I felt an overwhelming urge to unwrap three or four and pop them all into my mouth at once.
So this box of tasting squares is a great treat if you are a lover of semisweet and bitter chocolate.
