I purchased two of these for my dogs. I use them during walks at night and it helps me keep track of them when they are in the back yard at night. We have people that speed in our neighborhood so it helps get their attention and they will slow down if we're about to cross the street. Even though they come with batteries, I recommend to also purchase replacement batteries (CR 927 3V Lithium) as sometimes the batteries get drained during storage-Reviewed in JULY 2012.

I reduced my rating from five stars to three stars (but almost want to give two) because once you change the batteries the lights never work the same. They dim and brighten during walks depending on how much the leash is jiggling around the dog's neck. I have tried to reposition the battery and re-screw the light back on the casing; it would shine bright initially but then go dim again during my walks. I had my husband pull out this metal piece inside to protrude more so there would be more contact with the battery but it only worked temporarily. I did contact "NiteIze" (hence the three stars) and they did respond by sending me a new light. I actually requested that they give me the "SpotLit" instead of the "Petlit". The Spotlit is a larger light but you have to use a lot of pressure with your fingers to push the light "on" and "off". I have tendonitis in my hands so I stopped using it. Overall this light works great the first time you use it but after the battery is changed, it will never be the same again. I wanted to add that this is my second set of the Petlit lights. My first pair was purchased from a vendor at a pet event. I thought the first ones were defective so I wanted to see if this second set from Amazon would be better and not dim and brighten after the batteries were changed. To my disappointment it was the same.

We use this for our puppy. It would also work well on a key chain or for riding a bike at night. It's very bright, easy to turn on/off, lightweight, and durable (after 3 months). It's a very good value.

Love it! I was skeptical about how visible this would really be, but it is very! Our dog was over at my in-laws house and the neighbors across the street actually came out to see what the bright white light bouncing around in my in-laws yard was. I don't know just how good of night vision dogs have, but this might just help him to see too! It was very stiff at first, but my husband worked with it, turning it on and off a few dozen times and "broke it in" before we put it on the dog, so now it turns on/off more easily. It is very small- about the circumference of a penny. My dog is tiny, only 6.5 lb and we keep it on his collar all the time.

I'd give zero stars if I could. I ordered this Jewel Crystal light after happily having the Nite Ize SLG-0610 Spotlit Red and SLG17-06-02 SpotLit, Lime Plastic tags that I put at the end of dogs' leashes for winter night walks. Those work great and I expected this to be the same. Not even close. It is tiny - about the size of a dime, and you turn the back to turn the light on. Well that was fine the first time. I tried to do it a second time and the battery compartment opened and I couldn't get it closed properly. I ultimately just gave up and threw the thing away. Thankfully it wasn't that much money but it was a big waste of money I'm buying another of the ones I already have that work so well. This one was meant to me on my end of the leash just to add visibility when walking and crossing the street in the winter evenings when it gets dark so early.

I highly recommend the other Nite Ize items mentioned above but would recommend any friends steer clear of this one. More trouble than it is worth.

I have three Pugs. They love to run in the University of Idaho ball field. Now that it is getting dark sooner, I can see them and with my trusty flashlight, they can see me. Of course I take precautions with leashes and harnesses. These light have a small carabiner hook that clips right on the harness or collar. The light itself is easy to turn on and off.

I loved the idea of this, but the execution was not good. First, it turns on by twisting and, though I have decent hand strength, it was almost impossible to turn on once on my dog's collar. (When I looked at it in the pet store (I purchased it in person, not on Amazon), it was easy to turn on/off. But the leverage of the cardboard it comes on does not exist on a collar. Second, the clip on this was not so good for a dog. It was lost within a few weeks of purchase. As for the amount of light, it suited me fine. I actually got it so that I would be able to see the sidewalk between my door and the street when I am walking my dog at night. Once I get to the street, it is well light, so I was not worried about the light to make my dog that much more visible at night. As a way of just lighting up the sidewalk, it worked really well! I think if I were going to use it at night so that cars saw my dog, however, I would want something a little more bright. Overall, not a great purchase made much worse by how quickly the clip failed and it was lost. (funny and disappointing since I think of Nite Ize as mainly making clips for things.
