The reason I gave 3 stars instead of a higher number is the poor quality control. The needles that are made correctly are wonderful and deserving of 5 stars. Unfortunately, not all the needles are made correctly :( Two of my set do not have good points; they have a blunt, flat end with a sharp edge between the tip and the side of the needle.

If you want these needles despite that, 8" needles are for a hat. For socks, I prefer 6" (some people even prefer 5" dpns).

I love Knitter's Pride needles in general, but the set I bought from bigflysports had a needle with a flaw. I unfortunately did not discover this until I started using them for a project a few months after my return window closed. My yarn kept snagging on a section of the needle and would not come loose without a lot tugging and pulling, which ripped my yarn. I found out that there is a deep crack on the surface on one if the needles. I'm bummed because I love this brand and feel they are worth the extra cost, but I expect the needles to be polished and to not have flaws that tear my yarn. I'd still recommend buying these, but run your fingertips over the surfaces carefully and make sure to knit with them as soon as you get them to make sure they are not defective. I'm going to see if I can use sandpaper to smooth the crack, though I'm not sure it will correct the flaw.

The polished wood on these needles makes the yarn slide very easy on the needles, from wool to full synthetic. I have made 4 pairs of socks on these and the longer length, 8-inch, are so useful when you get to the heel and have a larger number of stitches on the needles. I lost 4 of my 5 needles (maybe in a chair) when I was visiting friends, so I am getting ready to replace them with the same kind of needle. I also may get a second set so I can work on both socks at the same time.

My favourite DPNs! I use them for hats and slippers and small pieces knit flat. A bit sticky right off the packaging but nice and smooth after having used them for a few rounds. Highly recommended. Make sure you pick up the right length, not just the right size for your project. Happy knitting

I don't know if I will ever knit socks, I bought these and a book, and it just doesn't make me relax, like crochet. But the product itself is as described. You might be better off with a review by someone who knits socks.
