First, if you've priced HDMI cables lately, you'll know that they're expensive--and the longer they are, the more expensive they are. So this cable is impressive for the price alone.

Second, it gives you excellent HD transfer rates and quality--which means your shows and DVDs will look awesome.

Third, it's really long. Sixteen feet long, in fact.

The problem with other HDMI cables is that they're quite thick and bulky, and they're much more expensive in general.

This cable could be used for anything requiring a long HDMI cable, but the application that I'm using it for is to play movies, Netflix, and YouTube off my iPad to a large flat screen TV. In fact, I bought this cable specifically because I wanted a thinner (smaller form factor) cable for travelling. I take this cable with me in my briefcase so that when I'm in hotels I can watch Netflix on the hotel's TV--and I can comfortably lie on the bed and have access to my iPad's controls. In order to do this you'll need an iPad HDMI adapter like these (depending if you have a lightning connector or not):

This cable + iPad + adapter = you can play/show all your iPad media on your flat screen TV.

***Note that is cable is directional--meaning that you have to be careful to plug the correct end in your "source" and the other end in the TV. Each end is labelled, so just plug it in right and everything will be good.***

It may seem obvious after the fact, but these cables are directional. They will only function if installed in the right direction. The plugs are marked accordingly. I was busy installing and just opened the cable packages and installed w/o paying much attention. I figured out the problem pretty quickly after the devices wouldn't transmit to the TV.

This is effectively a standard HDMI cable that is chipped to always negotiate a 1080 connection. It's a lower profile cable so it's very easy to run through wiring conduits (except for the standard-size plug). The only bad part is the output device plug (to the TV) is rather long. This means the plug hits the wall when the TV is tilted on my low profile HDTV wall mount. This puts stress on the plug and port. Easily remedied by a right angle connector but just be aware.

This would work fine for light devices as the cable itself is incredibly light. No ferrite cores and high gauge (low diameter) wiring.

This is a nice thin cable that works great for basic purposes, but be advised it does not support ARC. This means if you are using it to connect a newer TV to an AV receiver, the receiver will not pick up on audio FROM the TV. This is important if you want to transmit audio from the TV to the receiver, ie if you are using the smart tv functions or watching broadcast TV. Had I know this, I probably would have opted for a different cable. However, it has worked well to deliver audio and video from the receiver to the TV.

Despite not being bi-directional I absolutely love these Active HDMI cables!

I've ordered 6-7 of these after buying my first one and what you should know first is you get what you pay for.

These are the cheapest and longest active HDMI cables you can buy on Amazon (at the time I wrote this) and when I say "cheap" I mean that in both price and construction. The cable is 16 feet long, very flexible (you can flex these more than a passive HDMI cable with less chance of breaking them), and has hard plastic "out" and "in" ends. The plastic "sleeves" (the protective hard plastic covering the inside electronic chips) have hard, rough edges and can easily be pulled off either intentionally or accidentally revealing the active HDMI chips inside that are imbedded in a small circuit board that is coated in a waxy substance that holds everything together.

Being an active cable the video signal travels only one direction of the cable so you'll have to plug the correct end into each HDMI port, not something you have to worry about with passive HDMI cables which also tend to be cheaper, although not usually this cheap at 16 feet. In this case the small end of the cable is the video out with the larger end being the video in (you connect the larger side to your TV/Monitor).

Using two of the same model DELL IPS monitors calibrated for color reproduction, I utilized an HDMI splitter to compare the quality between this active cable and an Amazon Basics passive cable. To my eyes there was no difference in picture quality or color between the two cables and as a bonus there was no discernible input lag (the time between when you do something, say pressing a button on a keyboard, to when it happens on your screen) difference either.

I highly recommend these cables if you need a cheap, long, unidirectional (one direction) cable, just don't expect it to be a quality build.

We use this to plug in an iPhone or iPad that we have in the front of the van to the HDMI input in the rear. The long, slender cable tucks under the fascia of the vehicle for a concealed look. Picture quality is good, but that may be relative to the screen as it would have to be really bad to notice it.
