I bought this to use for running and it has been great! I hadn't used a metonome for running before and didn't know how a $5 dollar one would stand to the $40 dollare one but I thought I would try my luck. It is very easy to use, has great volume options and clips easily to clothes. I was very happy with where the battery went, as it is not somewhere sweat and moisture could easily get. I have dropped it a couple of times and it still works great. I would recommend it to any runner wanting to use a metronome.

UPDATE 1-26-14

Time to UPDATE this review: been about one year this has taken place / since this started to happen

On ALL of my M50 Black Digital LCD Beat Tempo Metronomes: STOP WORKING - they dont seem to turn on, they start to "flicker" on and off, change the battery and that does not help.

I have tried fixing them over and over, the issue seems to be the connection between the battery and the electronics - Im not technical enough to go into specifics, other than to say that you change the battery and it still wotn turn on and flickers on and off - if you squeeze the device it stays on until you let go and again flickers on and off -OR- it *might* stay on - it is "hit and miss"

So... as far as RELIABILITY and LONGEVITY is concerned I have to give it 1 star out of 5 stars

It just doesnt stand up to the test of time

Strange because it seems so well built - solid, huge LCD read out (relative to its overll size), ease of use, but unfortunately it doesnt last

GREAT metronome

Bought one and was so impressed I bought another. I now own two of them.

I own several metronomes, and this one works as good as any other.

It has two different beep tones. It can be programmed for time signatures up to 9/4 starting from zero, so 0 thru 9. The difference between 0 and 1 is the beep tone. 1 is a sharper and more high pitched beep, where as 0 is lower pitched and not quite as piercing / sharp.Read more ›

I was surprised it actually has a volume control. Very portable and easy to use. Figured it out without even looking at the instruction and comes with rythums that many dont have. At this price, its a great deal and is even better than many of the high dollars units. Needless to say, Im happy with it!

This metronome does what is intended, sounds loud, and has an audio jack for headphones. It has a bright red LED on the upper side that marks the first beat. You can set the tempo manually or tap the big button for setting it automatically. It can subdivide tempo in various rhythms, and basically that's it. Made in China, the metronome uses a small round battery that comes in the package and has a mounting clip to attach it to a belt, a shirt or to the music stand.

The only negative point is that it doesn't sound as loud as a mechanical metronome, and setting the tempo is a little bit tricky. But once you get used to it, this thing is pretty nice.

Having had this metronome now for 3 months, I continue to be impressed. It works well. I wrote the paragraphs below when I first purchased the metronome. I have upgraded from 3 stars to 5 stars. See my note below on how to repair the metronome if you need to and have the same problem I did.

I bought this metronome mainly as a joke because of the size and the price. The joke is maybe on me. I am tentatively impressed. If you want portability, this just may be it. A potentially perfect metronome for many music students carrying many books. Many metronomes are not loud enough. I can hear this metronome easily as I play my 7-foot grand piano. The sound is unattractive. The clip is handy. Clip it to your clothing, and you will not lose it in a practice room.

Now the bad news. As I was writing this review, I started trying the various features to refresh my mind. The metronome stopped working. I took the battery out and bent the wire contacts toward the opening. Now it works perfectly. So I added qualifiers (maybe, tentatively, potentially) to the above paragraph. I haven't used this metronome much and probably won't use it much because I have other metronomes that meet my needs well. But my impression so far is that it just might be a fine metronome. You might have to play with it a little.

The range of tempi is phenomenal -- 30-280.

This metronome has a substantial variety of rhythms but they do not work in a satisfactory way. The accented beats and parts of beats sound like unaccented beats and parts of beats. I think this metronome works best if you set the beat to zero and the subdivision to a quarter note. So this metronome works best as a basic no-frills metronome. But for the price, it's hard to go wrong.

I would have given this metronome five stars, but I am not sure it is dependable. If you can reach inside with a hooked wire, you might get along just fine.

I needed a small metronome for my practice since I have no smart phone and my Piano Instructor recommended that I get one to know how fast my playing should be on the piano depending what pieces I am given. I came brand new and I am okay with size it is loud so I recommend putting the volume low if you have sensitive ears like I do. :)
