How I am rating the product using more or less stars for better decision making.
Disclaimer.
The following review is for one 3 in 1 shoulder plane shipped to me. The photos are of the actual plane shipped to me wrapped in oily plastic wrap.
This review is for entertainment and general evaluative purposes only.
Because of mass production.....This one review does not represent the quality of any or all other planes sold and shipped by any manufacturer or distributors.
There are several shoulder and bullnose plane designs being sold.
Some individual solid shoulder and bullnose plane designs (92) in my opinion are better. Often times a 3/4" cuttting iron is nice to have for a dado clean up.
The 3 in 1 shoulder plane has a solid body, however the front toe is hollowed out for a bolt and 2 alignment pins making the sole and sides of the large front toe thinner.
If the sides and cheeks are machined square to the sole great. If not there is less metal for lapping and tuning the sole square to the cheeks or sides.
The 3 in 1 design does save a little money and storage space and is still a good choice if its accurately machined.
* * Overall product value for money paid. It's ok for non professional woodworkers.
* * Overall cosmetic appearance could have been better. Mine will not win a beauty contest like the big brands costing much more. Several small short 1/64" cosmetic dings on plane body.
TIP. My plane cheeks and sides "appear to be" chrome plated or just very shiny. Chrome plating will not sand easily if it cheeks and sides need to be flattened for tuning.
* A 1/8"L X 1/16" W X 1/32" Thick chip near the mouth where the 3 female holes are drilled on the main plane body.
