These were purchased for a family member who has HepC. He was too sick to go through any treatment. He started taking these a few days after his blood test results showed the viral count to be so high that the labs stop counting. Five weeks later, he needed some of the tests repeated. The nurse called him to ask whether he had begun some treatment for the HepC. He said "no" and she asked "Well, what ARE you doing that's different?" Went to see the doctor, and his HepC count was ZERO. The hepatitis is not just inactive, in which case the count would be between 1 and 10. It's GONE. As were the viral counts of the two sub-viruses for which they tested. There have been no negative side effects.

I learned that medicinal mushrooms are also the most powerful immune modulator known, and would therefore help autoimmune diseases. So I started taking some myself.

I tend to think the supplement business is built in large part upon the pocketbooks of people with imaginary, self diagnosed illnesses. If you pay enough for a product and truly believe it will help, it probably will, at least to a degree. These same people are more likely to give credibility to anecdotal evidence than they are to science.
Having said that, I do take supplements for some chronic conditions. Most of those have peer reviewed studies documenting some level of effectiveness. I usually need to see the science before I'll spend money on a new one.
My doctor recommended another brand, much more expensive and one he just happens to sell. Imagine that. So I went looking and found this one. As an educator in an elementary school, I normally come down with a serious cold about two weeks after school starts. Big surprise eh? Kids coughing and wiping their boogers on me all day long. The doc suggested an immune booster to prevent or lessen the effects of a cold. A week ago I could feel the annual welcome back to school virus beginning to make its usual assault my temple of a body. So this year I began taking these several times a day and I must say, while I do still have a slight cold, it is MUCH less severe than normal and has remained in my head and not migrated down into my lungs where it usually goes. This product seems to be working. YMMV
