I noticed my softener wasn't softening like it used to after almost 10 years of use. I followed the instructions on this and did 2 cleaning cycles with the full dose in the brine tank. That seemed to do the drink and really made a big difference. Now I layer the smaller maintenance dose with every 40 lbs of potassium salt in the tank. Other than the water feeling as soft was when I first got the softener, I didn't notice anything unexpected (tastes, smells, etc...). It was also very easy to administer and use, and the value of the 5lbs bottle can't be beat.

This product worked well for me. My softener tank had broken and it was several weeks before I could fix the tank. The softener was not working very well after I fixed the tank but I added this to my salt and my softener is now working like new.

When our well-known brand of water softener needed another service call, we were very unhappy. For the second time in seven years, it no longer seemed to be softening our very hard water. It seems the beads in a water softener can deteriorate if not cleaned regularly. Replacing those can run upwards of $600, so we were looking for a more cost effective alternative. The service technician told us about “Softener Mate City Water Softener Cleaner” – of course, he sold us two treatments for an exorbitant price!

The cleaner did the trick and we had soft water again, but the price of the product was not to our liking. Once again, Amazon saved the us money! Five pounds of “Softener Mate City Water Softener Cleaner” cost no more than the two treatments we had purchased from the water softener company. Our Amazon purchase was less than 1/3 the cost of that from the water softener company.

If you want to maintain the performance of your water softener, I recommend “Softener Mate City Water Softener Cleaner”. It does a good job of keeping your water soft and prevents costly service calls. Further, Amazon’s price is significantly below that your service technician may charge and the five pound container will provide at least 6 treatments.

I bought this product to rejuvenate and old water softener which was on its last leg. I was not expecting a miracle and I didn't receive one either. I ended up getting a new unit and will use the remaining product when the occasion calls for it. In the meantime, refer to other reviews.
