I did a lot of research on dog seatbelts before I went with Kurgo. These guys are the best for the most affordable cost and I am really pleased with their product!

First and foremost they are one of the few on the market that are actually crash tested! The quality is very apparent in the stitching and the steal buckles. I thought the nested buckles would be confusing but they are super easy to use and I actually like them better than the clipping ones because they don't get caught in my dogs hair or risk pinching his skin if I clip it wrong.

Second, it fits great. I was worried because my dog was smack in the middle of an extra small and a small and I thought the fit wouldn't work. But I went with the small because I know it's easier to make it smaller, but you can never make it bigger and it fits like a glove!

Third, you don't have to bend your dogs leg to step them into the harness. Just slide the neck loop over the head and the back end fastens on both sides so you don't have to put a leg through like you do with some harnesses.

Forth, I love the front ring for walking! Our dog is still undergoing training stop pulling on walks, so we only use front attaching harnesses for walking. With our old seatbelt we had to switch harnesses every time we got in and out of the car. The front ring gives us an easy way to walk him to and from the car. No harness switch necessary! We've even started using it in place of our regular walking harness and we like it better because it doesn't slide around as much.

Finally, the customer service is spectacular! I ordered this direct from their site and I noticed that after a couple days, my order seemed to be stuck. I sent just one email to their support address and someone got back to me that same day!

This harness is great and makes it easy to control him when he sees a bird or squirrel on his walk. He does not try and bite or take it off so it must be comfortable for him. I have been using the car harness and it keeps him from jumping around in the car, with the harness he just sits there staring out the window.

I had purchased two of these x-large harness this month for one German Shepard and a Chocolate Lab. Once on the dogs you can control them more still the Lab is easy to control the German still pulls but with the neck chain I have that will soon be a thing of the past. These are the strongest harness I could find for my two 100 lbs dogs. Still it comes with the seat belt fastener two which you'll need to keep the dogs in the car seat without them trying to get into the driver seat while you drive.

Just to let you know be prepared to make a lot of adjustments as this harness has a lot of them. Once you do it then you can slip on and off easy. Two snaps on the back of the dog and you're ready to go.

I'd like to start by saying that the whole harness is very well built and would work well in any capacity as a dog harness. The seat-belt tether is also well built and strong. The design flaw that I am concerned occurs went the two are used together, following the instructions. Basically, if the dog does a circle be fore it sits (like dogs instinctually do), it causes the tether to become twisted up. Once the dog repeats this a few times, the tether becomes more twisted. Because of the shape and design of the carabiner (clip) used on the tether and the shape of the latching point on the back of the harness, the harness hardware puts pressure on the spring loaded gate (moving part of the carabiner) and unlatches the dog from the tether. This doesn't just happen occasionally, it happens consistently and frequently. I contacted Kurgo about this problem ( see below), and their solutions were:

1) Teach your dog not to be so dog like and not move at all while in the car.
--Dogs move. Dog sit, stand, and spin. If the product is designed for a dog, they should take this behavior into account.
2) Buy their re-designed tether which swivels and corrects for this when it comes out.
--Basically, they know that there is a design flaw but won't do anything for people who purchased their current product. Poor customer service response.

Below is my correspondence with Kurgo.

My messsage to Kurgo:
Hello,
I've been meaning to write for a few weeks and have now finally found the time. I've got a 40lb 4yo border collie named Layla. She is exuberant and loves to ride in the car.

EDIT 4/13/2016: I've changed my rating from one-star to four-stars. The harness has now passed crash testing and you can view the results on their website. I now use the extra-small harness for my three small dogs, as it is the least expensive option that has passed crash testing. My largest dog, at 14 lbs. could probably go up to the small, but she still barely fits the extra-small.

**NOTE** In the new crash test video, it shows that the dog is NOT using the tether that is included, and instead the seat belt goes right through the back of the harness. The tether was used in the 2013 crash test by the Center for Pet Safety and the carabiner snapped, causing a catastrophic failure. It looks like the same carabiner to me and there is no mention of the load capacity, which leads me to believe that it is not enhanced strength. I have replaced with one that is intended for climbing and rappelling, as I use this in conjunction with a booster for my small dogs and putting the seat belt straight through the back is not possible with that configuration. The harness/carabiner combination is still cheaper than a Sleepypod and I feel confident that my pups are as safe and comfotable as possible when traveling.

Below is a comment from the product site in the Q&A section in response to the original crash test failure:

"The Center for Pet Safety is an organization that was created by Lindsey Wolko in response to her pet being injured in an accident. The only crash test of a Kurgo harness by the Center for Pet Safety was conducted in 2013. In the summer of 2013, the Center for Pet Safety conducted crash testing on harnesses from several manufacturers and developed their own set of standards that harnesses should meet.
