Best controller out there in the DJ market ever. No matter what else comes around the bend, the guys over at Vestax covered everything including the different software. I took a look at most of the controllers that are out there as of right now and I wasn't really happy with none of them until the VCI 400. Now, I can't put it down.

The VCI works so well for what it does, however what it does has got to be what you want for your investment to be sound. The VCI is expensive compared to the price-cut S4 and some of the cheaper midi gear out there. I feel that without intending to customize the VCI then the price is a bit too steep imo.

As for the controller its build quality is immediately apparent when comparing it to other gear. Everything looks great and feels very solid. I feel that the VCI has a perfect size. It's small enough to be portable and fit alongside other gear. Yet despite it's relatively small size everything feels easily usable. The knobs have plenty of space between them and they're big enough to use in quick-finger moments. On many forums some people have expressed disapproval in how quickly the jogs work with traktor. Personally, I have latency lowered to 13ms and I find there to be no noticeable latency between jog manipulation and response in the Traktor software. I am using an i7 powered machine and i'm sure this makes a good difference.

The sound quality is excellent and with a 24bit soundcard that's no surprise. I don't have the trained ear of a veteran producer/engineer but I can feel the clean signal and clean powered volume noticeably when pumping 24bit .wav songs.

The setup is fairly simple for Traktor. The gear flashes firmware up and down very stably and should you mess something up it's usually a quick fix. The VCI support community is by no means as large as the S4's, but it's good enough to support confidence.

Only gripes are that my first controller didn't work properly. On the first-shipped controller the jogs wouldn't properly register pressure.

this is one hell of a controller. i have known about this controller since it was released in 2011 and it did not catch my interest. one day in 2013 and just like that, i suddenly got the interest on this controller. you can use it on any dj program, but my preference is serato dj. i got the serato dj overlay in the box, plus a serato dj activation code. i did some 4 channel mixing and it was easy to do that kind of mixing on it. this is one investment i didn't waste.i would surely recommend this product to anyone.

I'll get right to the point. In my humble opinion, this is the best DJ controller on the market, specially for the price. I say this after using the Pioneer DDJ-SX (I'm a Pioneer fan, specially the CDJs) and the Traktor S4 MK2, which are the most popular controllers out here.

The Pros:

- Perfect size for the mobile/club DJ. It is smaller then both S4 and DDJ-SX, and many others, but it packs the options and performance. Amazingly, it does not feel cramped up at all.
- Amazing build quality. Anyone who has used any Vestax hardware can easily attest to this. The unit feels very solid due to the metal/hard plastic casing. The knows and faders are great, and the jog wheels are top-notch as always.
- Sound quality is superb as well. As one online reviewer noted, "...Special mention must also go to the audio interface. To my ears, the Vestax VCI 400 is the best sounding DJ controller around. Tight, defined transients, with full rounded bass, and airy upper frequencies result in a sound that punches with a velvet glove." I concur with this evaluation, definitely the best sounding controller I've heard. Vestax didn't cut any corners here for sure.
- It is versatile. It can adapt to any DJ software on the market and the buttons are easily mappable. The controller was really designed with Traktor Pro in mind, but it can adapt.

The Cons:

- No built-in booth out. This is the only gripe which I have. However, you can use an existing mixer in a club setting or get an external balanced volume monitor (TC Electronics). Fixable, but it would be nice to have it built-in.
- Unbalanced TRS output. No biggie, but I much rather have a secondary balanced output.
- Channel VU meters. I wish they were a little bit clearer, and better defined.

The unit is built solid " the good is that it looks really cool especialy the platters how they light up and feel great and the filter knobs are at hand" this deal was really ahead of its time " ive noticed alot of new controllers of other brands in 2014 have the button set up like the vestax 400, and is way older. The cons are that the bpm control is short and is a bit hard to ajust an exact bpm , and also the mic inputs have no way of equalizeing the sound , and serato dj suports vestax 400 now " but if you have the first model which is the blackone , your gonna have to go through a complicated process of reconfigureing the controller so it can work with serato dj. Its better off with vdj 8 pro. I returned it cuz my play button would stay down , and thats a year after i bought it " very disappointed " so they couldnt do nothing about it and gave me money back at guitar center " so now i have a ns6 and is more solid over all . i love the vestax 400 but i think it has to much issues. I wish it would have lasted longer ,i got really used to the buttons and set up. And the white one looks nice but i wouldnt pay no more 450 $ for it " thats just my opinion.
